Really mixed emotions on this one. About half way through I was thinking that I was just wasting my time but by the end was thinking “Okay. Maybe this wasn’t half bad.” The gore was minor, but the story held my interest. If there are other movies available get them, but don’t pass up this interesting little flick.
This was no where near what I had hoped. Frankly I felt it was a bore-fest!Started off promising then drug on and on.Great cast though. And ended exactly the way I thought it would.
This “Open House” has (thankfully) nothing to do with the 80s “Open House”. Nevertheless it’s just a mediocre psycho thriller that tries tries to be different but eventually ends up as nothing special.
Pros:
* The acting – Brian Geraghty’s performance is mindblowingly awesome, Tricia Helfer and Rachel Blanchard are also pretty great.
* The plot – pretty interesting and a bit thought-provoking.
* The camera work – beautiful and stylish.
* The kills – quite brutal and entertaining.
Cons:
* The script – badly paced, badly written, predictable, not enough tension or suspense.
* The direction – unsatisfactory and lackluster. It’s filled with scenes and moments that try to shock or impress the viewer, but unfortunately totally fail in doing so.
* The blood – looks way too unreal.
Overall, an ok but disappointing film.
The movie has a lot going for it; Acting, production, intrigue. I’ve seen much worse. Its not the greatest, but I think it will hold your attention. Check it out if your bored
No plot, some atrocious dialogue, no motives to give a hoot about, and a few unremarkable slasher kills done by sibling psychos who take over a house for sale. The acting by the main leads (some fairly notable names, too) is actually passable, but the script is so remarkably bad at times that it makes everyone in the film look awful (such as the drawn out pre-hot tub scene/dialogue–ughh). Don’t expect to see Paquin in this much–blink and you miss her, her part is that small. At least she did someone (the director Paquin) a solid by showing up. Too bad for her (and him) because this is a stinker.
I actually really liked this movie, I read some reviews and the plot didn’t seem that interesting to me, but I was bored so I decided to give it a try. I think the acting, by all three of the actors, especially Brian Geraghty, he was phenomenal. I thought the plot was interesting, although it was a little hard to believe. I think it’s biggest problem were the gaps where there wasn’t anything going on. I also felt like there could be more of an explanation, or more history. I was actually really pleased with the movie, it’s definitely worth a watch.
A very sinister suspense thriller that is a definite must see!
This movie wasn’t good, but it wasn’t bad either.
