Just saw the movie and it is definitely the best thriller I’ve seen in a long time. Despite the trailer giving away all the goods, I was still on the edge of my seat. Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin were great. The scene where Breslin leaves the message for her mother had me tearing up. I don’t understand what was so wrong with the ending. Myself, and the audience were all satisfied and people were cheering. Better the psycho end up how he did (to rot and die, cause let’s face it, he ain’t going anywhere) than receiving food and shelter by going to jail.
The Call Review
I enjoyed the hell out of this movie and I cannot believe I’m say this, but I actually loved it. If you accept this movie for what it is you will love it. The Call is a fast paced thrill a minute edge of your seat thriller that wastes no time getting into the good stuff. I enjoyed the pace of this horror thrill film because as of late we have been getting a bunch of slow burn horror films and it was nice to be thrown right into the action from the get go. All of three leads did awesome. Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin are the perfect heroine and victim and our villain is truly disturbing. The first hour of the film is pure suspense thriller that will have you biting your nails and then the final thirty minutes is straight up horror film. I personally enjoyed the third act of the film even though it takes cues from several horror films, including Silence of the Lambs. Yes it has many horror cliches but it did not matter because they all worked and the audience I saw this movie with loved it and were yelling and creaming at the screen which made it all the more fun. If you want to be entertained for a full 90 minute movie with no time to even think about looking at your phone then go see The Call.
The one complaint I do have is the trailer took away from some of the impact of certain moments because they showed way to much. But in then end it did not ruin this from being a fun movie.
The only thing bad about this movie is the trailer. Don’t watch it. It spoils some of the best moments of this neck-break thriller. I would have just given it a 3, but the way people are slamming this movie, I felt it was my duty to just tell people – Its eaxctly the kind of a movie it professes to be. Just a nice popcorn thriller, which you can watch with your family. The end is pretty damn fine!!!!Yes there are clinches, but we love clinches. We can’t be served the nastiest sweet dish time and again like The Factory or High Tension. Make no mistakes – this is not a classic, but perfectly serviceable and disposable thriller, which you can enjoy. So go for it – Halle Berry is back and we do have some wonderful moments. Yes there are some scenes, which you just would love to ignore, but still it works and it entertains and its perfectly watchable right till the end. And in fact I loved the last few seconds of the movie.
‘The Call’ was a pleasant surprise. It’s not very often that a B movie thriller comes along and actually delivers, this flick had me on the edge of my seat for the first hour or so and there’s something to be said for that. The premise is kind of goofy and illogical but it’s easily forgiven. I respect that it went for the R rating and delivered more than one good kill scene complete with blood and violence! The ending, I’ll admit, was a little silly but it tried to do something a little different than the usually perfect ending. I think it’s worth at least one watch, support R ratings!!
To be fair I would say 3.5/5, but I can’t select that and 3 is too low.
