This is another film that I can’t quite review bc it was more of an experience rather then a movie. Your almost there with the family throughout the hell that unfolds on screen. It’s not that I was disturbed or repulsed it’s that, when the movie was over, it hit me hardcore bc knowing that this kind of story could sadly happen to anyone and is probably happening today. It has left a very long lasting impression on me. People will want to compare this to the strangers or something but the strangers is total crap. This is such a raw real movie. The only thing the movie was missing was the emotional arch and I disliked the dubbing job, maybe that’s what killed some of the emotional arch for me, who know? It’s worth a watch but don’t expect to have a fun time while watching. Very nice job to the director. And lastly it’s not that the violence is that brutal or violent but since the movie feels real the violence comes off more violent then it really is.

THIS MOVIE IS INSANE AND EXTREMELY INTENSE AT MOST OF THE TIME. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST KIDNAPPED MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN. SOME KILLS SEEM SO REAL, ITS SCARY, YOU’LL KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT WHEN YOU SEE IT. YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!!! 5 OUT OF 5, THE BEST HORROR MOVIE I HAVE SEEN IN A WHILE.

As a horror fan I wasn’t impressed with this at all! It was brutal but not memorable, it was tense but senseless and predictable, it’s not a game changer and in the end it was a pointless violent movie like the Funny Games remake that wasted good performances. It starts out with a normal well off family of three moving in a spacious new home when intruders break in and all hell breaks loose, yes it’s familiar, same old formula that has been done to death and they don’t even try to pull out any new tricks, sure the split screen was clever but I felt like I was watching a very violent episode of 24 or something and it kind of bugged me after awhile. The movie tries to be shocking but it came off as by the numbers and dull with a bunch of screaming and yelling without being truly terrifying and suspenseful and the ending was vicious but not satisfying at all and the very beginning bit didn’t really make sense with the rest of the movie I mean was that the dad or a whole new dad and family that are falling victim to the crime, I just don’t know. This movie really should be called Intruders because they all pretty much stay at their home while the intruders get money off them and no one literally gets kidnapped. Overall it’s a way too familiar movie that tries nothing new and falls victim to the same old formulas and based on some critics rave reviews it’s a very disappointing, violently senseless film that will make you roll your eyes in disgust than be scared out of your mind like the movie The Strangers which is a much better home invasion film. Not recommended!

In terms of ruthless on-screen brutality, 2011 is just an AMAZING year.
After “The Loved Ones”, “Red White & Blue” and the remakes of “I Spit On Your Grave” & “Mother’s Day”, I had the ‘pleasure’ of watching another really extreme and absolutely uncomprosing movie:
“Kidnapped”, a Spanish home-invasion flick that hit me like a hammer.

Starts out with a strong and incredibly breathtaking opening (breathtaking in the truest sense of the word),
followed by a 15-minute breather (removal, family stuff…),
followed by the most intense 60 minutes I’ve ever seen. 60 minutes of hard-edged and shattering violence, including nasty tortures, harsh rape, horrible kills, loads of stunning suspense, loads of outstanding edge-of-seat scenes and an ending, so shocking, so disturbing, so nihilistic, it left me devastated.
Big kudos to the marvellous cast who all deliver flawless and fully believable acting performances,
but also to director Vivas who created an impressive terror-masterpiece by using beautiful locations, sinister lighting, effective handheld cinematography, excellent split-screen scenes and a brilliant score.

A kick-ass shocker for admirers of uncomfortable movies.
If you love stuff like “Funny Games” or “The Strangers”, you will adore “Kidnapped”.

I LOVED IT! An incredible technical acheivement and a big middle finger to all the latest, watered-down Hollywood crap.

***Dislclaimer*** On the advise of many websites I watched the subtitled version and not the atrocious English dubbed version.

***Spoilers*** I read early on about a great ending and deliberately didn’t read much else about the film so it wouldn’t be spoiled. I’m glad I didn’t because I almost jumped out of my chair with disbelief – in a good way. The rest of the film is great too with its slow burn build-up and constant sense of dread about what may happen next.

    ***Spoilers End***
Some websites have compared this movie to THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE (meaning its this year’s break-out discovery horror film from film festivals). And I think that like HC people will either love it or not get the hype. I thought it was great!!!

Quite, tense and disturbing, even with the slow pace of the film. However, I loved it all around. The practical effects were great. For those who say the beginning makes no sense for the rest of the movie, think of the opening scene as a what if… The only issue I had was the daughters crying and whining. Not quite as bad as Danielle Harris, given the situation, but annoying none-the-less.

fuckin finally I see a good solid horror movie. The last 20 mins were intense. Yea the plot has been over done to higher hell. But the way the violence was and everything was something different. I didn’t get the opening scene, wasn’t that the father? I am confused LOL.

The movie is kind of slow but the last few minutes are insane.

This movie had it all: Intensity, violence, and decisions that’ll get you killed! I loved every bit of it and the ending is brutal as fuck. I recommend this to anyone who loves some good ass foreign horror shit.

Official Score: 2.5 / 5
