One benefit and one hindrance of my job: I get the movies I buy 1-2 weeks early but am filled with disappointment with what is actually ordered for the store. You see, 150 copies of BREAKING DAWN PART 2 were delivered along with 2 copies of this, because that’s what the customers want to spend money on.

Anyway CRAWL was a pretty excellent little movie. There’s not much I like more than being glued to the screen held in complete suspense, which is where the film both succeeds and also loses a point. There is a little bit early on featuring our heroine Marilyn Burns (!) walking around her empty, secluded house investigating some noises. Even though we have no reason to believe any one is in the house it is a nail-biting sequence. Unfortunately this scene cuts away twice, the first time showing us the man (who we already know will be the villain) is not at her house, the second cut features a very random scene involving her boss spanking another employee. It’s so out of place that it’s distracting. Other than that though I have very little to complain about with this film.
The score throughout the film is pretty fantastic, it is very intense and haunting adding to the suspense.
A small twist at the end, not big enough to be considered a plot twist- more like added information, gives the movie just what it needs to drive it home. Bringing some power to our heroine and bringing the film to a darker place.
The only other negative I could think to add was that a couple of plot points (motivations, even) seemed a little rushed and/or not existent. Not enough to dislike the film though.
I would definitely recommend seeing this one, it may be my favorite of the BDSelects so far!
I think all the early talk of a Coen Bros-esque film may have been a bit overstated, I can see it but not all that much.
