Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) is keeping with aquatic horror. Not only is the filmmaker tackling Under Paris 2 for Netflix, Aja is also back for the sequel to his 2019 sleeper hit Crawl.
What’s more, is that Crawl 2 has been set to star Mason Gooding (Heart Eyes, Scream) and Emily Rudd (Fear Street trilogy) per THR.
The new cast means new story and setting; Crawl 2 will trade a hurrican ravaged Florida to a partially-submerged New York City.
Plot details beyond that remain scarce, of course, but the new setting brings the alligator in the sewers urban legend, and 1980’s Alligator, to mind.
Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan (Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension) wrote the script, as did Aja and Gregory Levasseur.
Released in 2019, Alexandre Aja‘s Crawl put Kaya Scodelario up against a category 5 hurricane and a pack of hungry alligators, and the thrilling mix of action and suspense-horror proved to be a hit with audiences at the box office. On a $13 million production budget, Crawl scared up over $91 million worldwide, with sequel talks beginning almost immediately.
Craig Flores, Sam Raimi and Aja are producing. Levasseur and Zainab Azizi will executive produce.
