‘Beyond Skyline’ Imagery Carries ‘Predator’ Vibe

Join the resistance.

Ahead of AFM, we have the first two images from Beyond Skyline, the sequel to Colin and Greg Strause’s Skyline that’s directed this time by Liam O’Donnell, who worked on some effects in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem and Iron Man 2. He co-wrote the screenplay with Joshua Cordes. The duo wrote the first film, too.

Frank Grillo (The Purge: Anarchy) stars in the film as a tough-as-nails detective who embarks on a relentless pursuit to free his son from a nightmarish alien warship. The images look Predator-inspired, which is why the casting of The Raid stars Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian is so exciting.

The full cast, which has just been revealed, includes Frank Grillo, Bojana Novakovic (Drag Me to Hell, Devil), Jonny Weston (Under the Bed, Project Almanac), Iko Uwais, Callan Mulvey, Antonio Fargas, Pamelyn Chee, Yayan Ruhian, Jacob Vargas, Valentine Payen, Betty Gabriel, Jack Chausse, and Kevin O’Donnell.

The sequel’s storyline allegedly takes place at the same time the first one did.

Hydraulx Entertainment is behind Beyond Skyline, and do some seriously badass effects work.

Thanks to Fabien M. for the tip!

Sounds way better than the first. Hopefully more than just awesome visual effects.

        CTHL, right on! 🙂

I really liked the first one!

I enjoyed it too. It was dumb as hell but a lot of fun. Looking forward to a Grillo-led sequel.

LOL J I liked the first one a lot too!! I always wanted a sequel for it but the concept of this happening the same time as the first is pretty cool, even though I did want a continuation as to what happened to Eric Balfour’s character in the end of the first film.

  • G.A. McGillivray

Watched it more than once… Fun movie.

Didn’t care for the original movie, I thought it was boring as hell, up there with Battle: Los Angeles bad, but this one has Iko and fuckin’ Mad Dog, so I am sold

Gotta admit that I loved both Skyline AND Battle : Los Angeles.
It’s a while since I last watched them though, so perhaps it’s time for a repeat viewing.

  • Vader the White

Why the hell are they making another one? The first one sucked!

    • Gadriel

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, personally.
Different strokes for different folks, so to speak.

Well, it’s definitely NOT Star Wars, Vader.

Skyline, for me, was the most memorable and noteworthy Alien Invasion flic I’ve seen, and I think I’ve seen them ALL. It was noteworthy because of it’s realism – a highly advanced alien species capable of interstellar travel and driven by the primordial need to “grow and spread out” would be unstoppable if they wanted our planet. Also, space travel is “expensive”, and physics dictate that you need to “travel light” and use the resources available when you arrive at your destination. This applies whether you’re travelling to Mars or across the Milky Way (although it makes even MORE sense in the latter case). The resources, in this case, are human. The human brain is an impressive computer, and capable of being used to control everything from my keyboard to an F1 car, so why not reprogram it and use it to control an alien weapon?

For me, the one weak point of the film was the ending, which I know many enjoyed.

Very much looking forward to the sequel, but I suspect it won’t be as good (read as “original”) as the 2010 film.

Wait a minute. They’re going to make a sequel and it won’t even continue to explain what the hell happened to Balfour’s leading character after he apparently turned into an alien himself at the end? (sorry if that’s a spoiler but if you haven’t seen a 2010 film by now, not my fault) What the heck’s the point of this? They aren’t going to plan multiple sequels or something are they?

I’m watching this simply for Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian. Two of the baddest motherfuckers on the face of the planet.

This statement is fact, not opinion.

I’m actually looking forward to this, I know the first one gets a lot of hate but I honestly enjoyed part 1, I think Eric Balfour did a great job and the first film was a pretty action packed ride. Pretty stoked to see part 2!
