‘Leatherface’: Blood-soaked First Images from the ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Prequel!

With the film allegedly releasing this October, Bloody Disgusting now has the first ever official images from Leatherface, the hotly anticipated prequel to Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre!

Leatherface is rated R “for strong bloody violence, disturbing images, language and some sexuality/nudity.

In Leatherface, Jessica Madsen plays one of four inmates (Sam Coleman, Sam Strike, James Bloor) who escapes from a mental hospital. One of them becomes the title character and iconic slasher. The quartet kidnaps a young nurse (played by Vanessa Grasse) and takes her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman (Stephen Dorff) out for revengeThe Conjuring‘s Lili Taylor is Verna Sawyer.

Leatherface was directed by Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the duo behind the slasher masterpiece Inside (À l’intérieur), as well as Livide and Among the Living.

When we talked with the filmmakers, they told us the film is “a brutal and nihilistic road movie that we hope will surprise and delight the fans…

Nice but where s the release date? October? Come on October is just around the corner it’s impossible , will lionsgate release it with no promotion at all ?

  • Wolf-man

I still don’t understand what’s so exciting about Young Leatherface. I mean they tried it before and it was crap. Was anyone really watching TCM and thinking “I wonder what his background is?:

    • dukeblues

      I was. lol

    • Jack Derwent

IDK out of all of the horror ‘slashers’ Leatherface is really the only one I’d be interested in seeing a proper prequel for.

  • DrewHamster

Well considering that one is being shot through the head (and throwing out some CGI blood) I’m guessing he isn’t Leatherface unless he somehow survived that…

    • Mike Gionfriddo

Bud isn’t Leatherface, it’s Jackson! Also, it’s revealed at the end that Leatherface gets the “Pretty Lady” flesh mask from Lizzie. If you want ill send you the script and you can see for yourself. chainsaw.mike80@gmail.com

      • Darkknight2149

        Is the script any good?

        • Mike Gionfriddo

if you guys want the script, you have to email me and request it. I don’t have the time to keep coming back here to get everyone’s email address. my email is chainsaw.mike80@gmail.com

      • VATech

Wouldn’t mind seeing that script if you have it mate!
        jhayden456@gmail.com

      • Wayne Smith

Thanks for ruining the movie for everyone you fucking prick

        • Mike Gionfriddo

Your welcome! Oh and before I forget, a young Jed Sawyer/Jackson lures Hal Hartman’s daughter into a trap and is murdered by Nubbins and Loretta Sawyer.

        • Darkknight2149

How do you know he ruined the film? The film was heavily reshot. There’s no telling how much of the original script was maintained. Seth Sherwood also said in an interview that the directors inserted scenes and kills that were absent in the script.

Take it from me. I remember reading the leaked script for the 2011 “Green Lantern” movie back in 2010. I regretted my decision until I watched the movie. The general plot and several of the scenes were the same, but the final film was different enough that it didn’t really matter… Though neither was particularly good.

  • Bloodspatta

I honestly don’t see the point of this film, but the choice of directors definitely has me interested.

  • Josh Nitsche

I really don’t like the first image of the big guy getting shot in the head. A. It’s a spoiler B. It looks like it was made for TV. and C. The daylight setting isn’t doing it for me. I was hoping this would be scary.

    • Khy

      Hallmark channel goes bloody

    • ky

Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t the original and the remake shot mostly during daylight? I think the southern/texas setting is better utilized during the day, as the heat and shortage of living creatures owes itself to the tension and fear of the films. My opinion.

      • Josh Nitsche

You’re right, but it looks like that was shot down the street from my house in suburban Los Angeles, not rural Texas… I don’t like the goofy face he’s making either, but now I’m just nitpicking.

        • Stogie Jones

This film wasn’t made in the US…Bulgaria.

        • Tor from Yucca Flats

then they must have did a good job since that is in Sofia, Bulgaria..

    • Stogie Jones

Yeah the big kid isn’t Leatherface. I’ve read the script. Leatherface has a gf in this movie…before he becomes Leatherface.

      • Mike Gionfriddo

Jackson is Leatherface. He takes a bullet that blows out a good portion of his face and jaw. Also, he kills Lizzy at the end and gets the “Pretty Lady” flesh mask from her.

      • Tor from Yucca Flats

i hope you are joking.. LF is worse than downsydnroe how can he interact or speak to girls. no way

        • Stogie Jones

No…he is originally a normal kid. An incident leaves him brain damaged and deformed.

          • Tor from Yucca Flats

That’s bullshit then, tobe and gunnar clearly said he’s borng like that a victim of generations apon generations of in breeding

          • Stogie Jones

But they changed it. Tobe was involved in some of the other films. Not this one. The movie is a love story in part, but it’s a tragedy. The ending is sick (in a good way). If the script I read is the final script, this is the best ending of any of them.

          • Tor from Yucca Flats

tcm is known for having multiple storylines going in different directions all contradicting each other, just goes to show the original film is such a classic that many writers want to add to it, and there will probably be more different prequels long after our life time with other back stories for him.

  • Khy

I love how people are just now getting worried. The fact that this had a thousand reshoots over the last two years should have been a hint. Also the concept is ass.

I’d rather take my chances with a follow up to TC3D. That could’ve at least had a small chance to wipe the steaming pile of shit 3D left on the series. This prequel however is yet another dump. Open wide bitches.

    • disqus_uqr3Boh0Wp

I think I agree but I’ll spare judgment for a while at least until a trailer lands. I need to get a better feel for the film first. But I must say next to that Amityville film it dosnt sound good.

    • Simon Allen

Khy, i’m really curious about those re-shoots (especially with another director) as they have never been confirmed anywhere and I am wondering if they are some kind of online urban legend ?

      • Khy

From what I heard it really happened. I mean it’s been over two years since the original shooting- I believe that in that time they did a ton of reshoots and changes. Just like Amityville Awakening.

        • Simon Allen

No disrespect to you at all Khy but yet again it’s the whole “he said she said” thing .
I’m just surprised that out of all the people that must have been involved in the process over the 2 year span that nobody has officially spoken out either in print or on the good old net .
Like you i’m in no doubt that it has been chopped and changed to bits .
I trust that when the damn thing finally gets a release we will get the full story .

          • Mike Gionfriddo

Go on Vanessa Grasse’s Instagram and scroll down a bit. You’ll see set pics from the reshoot dated May/June 2016. The movie filmed from May 14th-June 21st 2015.

          • Simon Allen

Thanks for that ….as i’m sure you know many movies have reshoots but it still doesn’t tell us if the original directors were replaced .

          • Mike Gionfriddo

Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo were directing the reshoots. They are behind the camera in the majority of the pictures from the reshoots i previously told you about.

          • Simon Allen

Thanks again (i don’t have Instagram) that confirms my suspicions that they were NOT replaced .

    • Meisha’s Taint

No we have been worried for quite some time

  • Necro

I’ll give it a shot. Glad for the R rating I thought just maybe they were going to slap it with the Pussy-13 rating. Now I hope the film is at least decent cuz rated R doesn’t guarantee a solid film.

    • Ethan Boling

Why would they ever give a Texas Chainsaw movie a PG-13 rating? lol

      • Necro

Hey I agree! You never know nowadays, and I ask that same question about 95% of the movies they give that PG-13 rating to.

      • Necro

I can’t tell you how many movies were coming out over the years and I assumed it was going to get an R and then I see the trailer and hey what do you know PG-13!

      • Jeffrey Scott

You do know for the original, hooper wanted a pg rating.

  • Darkknight2149

Holy… What did the reshoots do? In the various interviews, Seth M. Sherwood said that this film mostly used practical blood and, from the directors, had an almost arthouse look. But, those stills are just awful. “Texas Chainsaw 3D” was DTV quality, and these out-of-context stills look much worse.

    • Haiden Charles

The stills are photos were taken during shooting. Therefore it’s not the exact quality or does it have the cinematic look as the final cut of the film.

      • Darkknight2149

        Thanks for clarifying.

        • Haiden Charles

          No problem!

    • Far Cry

The lower budget look of a texas chainsaw film the better.

  • Cameron Chapman

no offense ot horror fans but i appreciated Texas chainsaw 3d, it had more of a plot rather than just a mad-man sawing people up cuz they were trespassing, in this film it shows that family can change everything, and remember those old motto’s? Family Is Forever? they incorporated it, and if u bash that film Ur basically saying u dislike tobe hoopers involvement in it, because he plays a huge part in it! i always have faith in the movies that i love, and even if it isn’t what i expect, i will cherish it forever!

    • Mike Gionfriddo

I agree w/you that Texas Chainsaw 3D is underrated.

      • Cameron Chapman

I know right i thought they did the best with what they had, they even took on one big burden trying to incorporate 3D styles without making the kills looks stupid, and they pulled it off 🙂

    • Yeah i liked it too, the only real problem i had was with how they managed the passage of time (e.g. The ending of the original was set in 1974 and the story of the movie was set like 20 years after but still they were in the 2010s)

      • Cameron Chapman

        😛

    • Darkknight2149

I respectfully disagree. It wasn’t faithful to the spirit or tone to the original, and its connections to the original ended after the first scene. And, although Leatherface is sympathetic in the original, he most certainly is not some superhero. And even looking at it as its own thing, it was still a dumb direct-to-video quality horror film with budget problems and unfinished special effects.

Being a direct sequel to the 1974 film, the filmmakers had a chance to do something great and, even if you are one of the few who liked it, you have to admit that they squandered its potential. And on the Blu-Ray special features, they flat-out admitted that they only turned Leatherface into a hero because Lionsgate was scared of controversy and didn’t want to make another horror film about cannibalism (which, in itself, is facepalm-worthy considering that is literally what “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is about).

As for ‘doing something different’, there were a dozen different directions they could have gone that are true to the franchise, but are still something we haven’t seen before. And they have tried to do ‘something different’ before with “Part 2”, “The Next Generation”, “The Beginning” and even the upcoming “Leatherface” movie. Really, I think what studios need to do is stop copy-and-pasting the exact plot to the original, find out what actually made the original scary, and implement that into a new story featuring the Sawyer clan.

      • Cameron Chapman

well still i will disagree with anyone who says that based on the fact that though the 1st film showed leather face among his family, the film wasn’t about it, it was about him slaughtering hitchhikers or trespassers, leaving the viewer to wonder if he’s just a mad-man or just a pissed off dude! in the “2013” film they indulged on the reason why he was murdering people, they had the family twist in the end to show thats what truly matterd to Jed…was family….i also want to note that he kept track of who he wanted to kill, at the time before heather or Edith sawyers showed up, he only wanted to kill those involved with his family’s death on august 19th 1974, no matter what you say..i believe they connected the original to this remake, though they may have hidden it a little bit, they still showed it.
trust me, i love the original Gunnar kicked ass as leatherface, but theirs on thing about him that was absent..at least to me….Fear Factor.
Dan Yeager’s Performance as Leatherface was incredible he had such a speed where you think your safe..but your not sure, like when Kenny sees him and attempts to run up the stairs, he gets a good distance away, then gets a meat hook to the back, pardon me but thats way scarier not knowing what will happen rather than being able to guess what will happen.

      • Tor from Yucca Flats

lol random sterotype hillbillies back drayton up when they were originally just isolated monsters, now just big redneck family those rednecks dont fit into that house, dont seems to question why the house is full of bones of people they killed over years

        • Darkknight2149

I also found it funny that, in any other “Chainsaw” film (including the original), the Sawyer clan would have slaughtered the police. In “Chainsaw 3D”, a single sheriff shows up and they immediately give up just so the audience will feel bad for them when they die.

          • Tor from Yucca Flats

that whole movie had this odd feeling that we would feel sorry for the killers after all the 100+ people they torured, turned into furniture and ate. Also odd no mention of grave robbings earlier that day that was allll over the news. yeah by time that movie came out audiences did kinda change LF became what we came to see and we wanted to see him kill, first one we routes for Sally’s escape, now we route for LF to kill people its interesting how audiences change like that, so we did end up feeling sorry for him, especailly hes getting beaten at the end.

          • Far Cry

You were only supposed to feel sorry for him in the fact that he was evil because hes retarded were as the sheerif is evil because hes a douche.

          • Far Cry

Not really there was never a movie were they fought the police except chainsaw the remake prequel. An they only killed one cop. Here they couldnt kill him because the other police knew he was there an would have sent back up found them an killed them all. 3d was trying to recapture the real feel of the first were leatherface isnt some monster just some moron thats evil because he dosent know better. So the idea they could kill the police force is silly.

          • Darkknight2149

Given their characterisation in the original (or any of the other films, for that matter) and the fact that there was only one sheriff there, I have no doubt in my mind that they wouldn’t have given up Leatherface without some sort of resistance.

Given how afraid they were of being discovered in the original film, they would have killed the one sheriff and went on the run (in fact, they DID relocate in Tobe Hooper’s 1986 sequel). Of course, “Texas Chainsaw 3D” wanted the audience to feel sorry for Leatherface and the family, so…

    • Tor from Yucca Flats

disagree. dan yeag was only good thing about it

    • FreddyKruegerWithSunglassesOn

      You’re dumb.

  • Scott

I personally liked Texas 3D as well. They did a great job taping the end of the 1974 classic onto this film…and they did it well.

    • Flu-Like Symptoms

Yep, same here. Still can’t exactly grasp how a large portion of the fanbase claims 3D is the worst entry in the series when The Next Generation exists. And from what I’ve read/seen, most of them are gonna long for that film about half way through this newest prequel mess. I thought 3D was fine except for the casting of the Songs guy, or whatever the hell his goofy ass name is. Added nothing to the movie and was completely unnecessary.

      • Scott

        Songs guy??

        • hatter76

I had never heard of Trey Songz before that movie, but when that accident happened, the girls in the audience all erupted in screaming, crying “Noooooooooooooooo” that’s when I realized he must be somebody

          • Tor from Yucca Flats

            still duno who he is

      • Far Cry

Its because the script for 3d has good potential but makes no since at all. Were as Next generation is terrible from start to finish an its so bad its funny.

        • Flu-Like Symptoms

Honestly, do any of the Chainsaw movies make much sense? 3D was stocked full of forgettable moments, but was still enjoyable in certain parts (for me). Next Generation, to quote Kevin Hart, just made my balls itch.

    • Tor from Yucca Flats

big problem is they act like sallys friends are the only victims, but the house is full of bones, ffurniture of bones, cars and even face masks and victims in bbq yet they dont pick up on those victims just sallys friends

  • Shane o mac

I liked the Texas chainsaw with Jessica Biel and the last one, hope this one is good too but you never know when they keep pushing back a movies release date

  • ShadowInc

In general, I loathe prequels, but I’ll check this out because Bustillo & Maury are involved.

  • Trash Patch

A group of maniacs on the road being pursued by a vengeful lawman?

This is going to end with Free Bird playing, isn’t it?

    • Darkknight2149

More like, it’s going to end with Leatherface wearing Stephen Dorff’s face LOL

      • Haiden Charles

        With the narrator voice saying:
“In August of 1965, Gorman House
burned to the ground, no survivors
were found. It is estimated that over 30 young
        degenerates escaped in the fire,
but with all remains burned beyond
        recognition and all patient records
turned to ash, these numbers are
inconclusive. The few eyewitness reports that
exist surrounding both the fire– –and the earlier escape of five
        inmates, are considered evidence of
the first of many incidents– — of what would become known as,
        the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

        • Darkknight2149

Assuming that’s from the script, you may want to be careful. If the studio realises there is a leak, they might use copyright to retaliate.

          • Haiden Charles

They better go after their writer, Seth M Sherwood, he leaked it.. lol

          • Stogie Jones

Its quite possible its a thrown away script, thus allowing it to be leaked.

      • Stogie Jones

        Someone read the script.

        • Darkknight2149

It’s predictable from this article alone (let alone all the other synopsis, interviews, ETC). “Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman (Stephen Dorff) out for revenge” and “One of them becomes the title character and iconic slasher” pretty much give it away.

          • Far Cry

            Thats not what happens .

    • Tor from Yucca Flats

its gonna end with lf being apprehended by bounty hunter danny trrejo

    • Far Cry

You do realize devils rejects is ripped directly from Texas chainsaw massacre 2.An house of 1000 corpses is a ripped from texas chainsaw 2 an 1.

      • Trash Patch

I can totally see the many similarities between the adventures of the Firefly family and TCM 1 and 2. I was just throwing a joke out there boss. I am very curious how this new film will prove different then other “road trip” flicks centered on maniacs. It will certainly have to be careful to avoid existing in the shadow of TCM 2 and Last House on the Left.

    • Far Cry

The evil sheerif is taken from texas chainsaw 2 which devils rejects ripped off.

  • Jimi Hendrix

It’s fucked up that this site would spoil the movie in one of its stills. I read in another article that Leatherface isn’t born mentally impaired, that something happens to him in this movie and causes him to become brain damaged. It’s obvious that the tall, fat kid is Leatherface. And judging by the first still, it’s obvious how he becomes brain damaged.

I mean, if he’s NOT playing Leatherface, if they threw someone his size in as a red herring, only to make one of the skinny, CW looking actors, or even the girl Leatherface, then that would be incredibly stupid.

    • Court

Unless of the re-shoots massively changed the 3rd act, I think you’re going to be disappointed.

      • Jimi Hendrix

Not counting this one, there have been seven Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies. Only one of them (the original) was what I would call a good movie. There’s no way I could be disappointed in this movie, because I have absolutely no illusions that Leatherface is going to be anything but terrible. I’d love to be proven wrong, though. What do you mean by your comment, if you don’t mind me asking? Have you seen this already and saying I’m wrong about young Hodor being Leatherface? If so, how did you see it?

        • Far Cry

The script is online the fat kid isnt leatherface.

    • Tor from Yucca Flats

he was born like it, not bullet in brain thats dumb.

      • Far Cry

It is dumb an thats why it dosent happen lol .Hes not leatherface an hes not born insane. In the film the character is born into the sawyer family an he slowly becomes crazy because of what he goes through in the film.He mentally re gresses to a child through the film because of what he goes through.

        • Tor from Yucca Flats

new movie is normal kid with b ullet 2 brain

    • Far Cry

Your wrong the fat kid isnt Leatherface. He is a trick to through the audience off. What happens is Leatherface is born into the family an he dosent just all at once become evil he develops that way because of what he goes through in the movie.Hes not mentally handicapped he re gresses to a child because of what he goes through in the film.

  • Rai

Hey guys. Does anyone know if Drayton Sawyer will appear in this movie??

    • Haiden Charles

In the first draft of the script, Drayton is in it.

    • Stogie Jones

Yes he is. Grandpa is in it, plus, extended family. It has been revealed who will play the hitch hiker. He is a 36 yr old actor. So, it seems Leatherface will appear as a full fledged adult at some point in the movie.

  • Movie_Buff_2011

Tbh I couldn’t be less interested and I’m not a fan of the directors either so I will give this one a miss

    • Cameron Chapman

nothing personally but why judge a movie by the directors past, rather than give it a chance

      • Why eat a turd when the first five turds you ate tasted like crap?

  • Cameron Chapman

Dan Yeager better be leatherface in this film though!!

    • Court

      Nope.

    • Tor from Yucca Flats

impossible, lf is a kid in this

    • Stogie Jones

I think we see adult Leatherface in the final 10-15 minutes, but he will be a teen most of the flick..

  • Tor from Yucca Flats

this is gonna be like psycho 4. where we find out he banged his young mom which ruined it completely

  • Halloween_Vic

Ehhh idk but either way I’m still having hopes this can turn out good somehow.
