A bidding war has blown up in Hollywood for film adaptation rights Monsterpocalypse, the board game created by Privateer Press. Included in this bidding war, which is between Sony, Warner Bros., and DreamWorks, is the understanding that it will be directed by Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) with Alvarez co-writing the story alongside his partner Rodo Sayagues, according to THR.
Bearing similarities to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, the board game, “…pits humans in robot suits against monsters.” However, sources tell the website that while the core concept remains the same that the story will play out far different from del Toro’s film.
At this point, nothing is confirmed but a deal is being said to be reached by the end of the week.
