Two New Folk Are in Talks to Get Eaten in ‘Jurassic World 2’

Published

on

Okay, so I don’t know if they’ll actually get eaten. However, since their names aren’t “Chris Pratt” or “Bryce Dallas Howard”, I’m going to go ahead and assume that their lives are skating on thin ice…

Per Variety, Toby Jones (Captain America) and Rafe Spall (Prometheus) are in serious talks to join Jurassic World 2, the sequel to the mega successful 2015 continuation in the Jurassic Park universe. They will join the aforementioned Pratt and Howard, who were the main characters in Jurassic World.

Jones and Spall’s characters do not have any description yet and there are no plot details, so we can’t really hazard a guess as to what they’ll be up to in the new film.

J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) is directing based on a script by Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow, the latter of who directed Jurassic World. Trevorrow is also executively producing alongside Steven Spielberg.

Speaking with JurassicOutpost, Trevorrow promises Jurassic World 2 will be a different beast (no pun intended) than Jurassic World:

It will be more suspenseful and scary. It’s just the way it’s designed; it’s the way the story plays out. I knew I wanted Bayona to direct it long before anyone ever heard that was a possibility, so the whole thing was just built around his skillset.

There will be animatronics for sure. We’ll follow the same general rule as all of the films in the franchise which is the animatronic dinosaurs are best used when standing still or moving at the hips or the neck. They can’t run or perform complex physical actions, and anything beyond that you go to animation. The same rules applied in Jurassic Park.

Jurassic World 2 has a release date of June 22nd, 2018.

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
