Here’s Why Arnold Schwarzenegger Won’t Appear in ‘The Predator’

Published

on

One of Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s most prominent roles was in John McTiernan’s 1987 Predator where he played Dutch, a commando who battles an alien warrior in the middle of the Central American Jungle. One of his co-stars was Shane Black, who ghosted on-set rewrites for the sci-fi horror classic.

Black is now directing, currently in Vancouver filming The Predator, which is being pegged as a reboot of the classic film that allegedly takes place in everyday suburbia. Back in March 2016, Schwarzenegger teased a potential return to the franchise, explaining that he was meeting up with Black for lunch. It was all speculation at the time, but apparently, the duo was talking about reuniting on The Predator. The bad news is that we won’t be seeing Dutch in the next Predator, and Schwarzenegger’s reason is a little surprising.

“They asked me, and I read it, and I didn’t like it — whatever they offered,” he tells Yahoo. “So I’m not going to do that, no. Except if there’s a chance that they rewrite it, or make it a more significant role. But the way it is now, no, I won’t do that.”

From the aforementioned interview, it sounds more like Schwarzenegger wanted to star as opposed to making a small appearance. This is interesting because he nearly made an appearance in the 2010 Predators as the writers and director Nimród Antal envisioned Schwarzenegger for a cameo, which ultimately ended up featuring Laurence Fishburne in the role of ‘Noland.’

I actually applaud him here because I don’t think any of us want or need fan service, especially if it were to come off as lame as what they did in the Ghostbusters remake. Black is obviously a phenomenal writer, so it’s hard to think he would be doing Schwarzenegger a disservice, but at least it leaves the door open for future films.

In fact, I think this news also implies that the screenplay is envisioned as a sequel of sorts unless of course, Schwarzenegger would be acting in a new role.

Fox has already staked out a February 9, 2018, release date for The Predator.

What do you guys think about what Schwarzenegger said?

How to Watch ‘Cam’ Free Online After the Tech Thriller Left Netflix

Published

on

Cam streaming

Before updating the video nasty Faces of Death, director Daniel Goldhaber and writer Isa Mazzei explored the dangers of online life in tech-thriller Cam, their feature debut that was acquired by Netflix in 2018 after making waves on the festival circuit.

At the end of last year, the Netflix exclusive quietly departed from the streaming platform, left without another streaming home.

It’s not an isolated story; Mike Flanagan’s Hush also left streaming entirely for a period until it was finally picked up on both physical media and other streaming services.

While the tech-thriller currently isn’t available to watch on Netflix, Tubi, Hulu, or any other platforms, that’s not a problem for Cam thanks to a very cool move by Goldhaber: the director has made his breakout film accessible to watch online for free via his website.

As his site notes:CAM is unfortunately not currently available to view on any platforms, so you can watch it here if you like :).

No subscriptions or fees necessary, just hit play.

Cam follows Alice (Madeline Brewer), who works as an online cam girl obsessed with her ranking on the cam site. The higher her ranking goes, the more it draws unwanted attention, and Alice soon finds herself replaced on her own show with a doppelganger.

Written by Mazzei, a former camgirl, it uses the horror thriller premise to examine the life of a sex worker; Alice’s career ambition is directly at odds with the shame it brings to her family, and how she tries to spare them from it by keeping them in the dark. It only compounds her danger when the doppelganger enters the equation in Goldhaber’s engaging thriller.

For a deep dive into the treacherous world of Cam, listen to Horror Queers’ episode on it now.
