Round 1… FIGHT!

Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, an adaptation of the same-named novel written by Ernest Cline, is naturally going to be LOADED with Easter egg references to iconic pop culture properties, as it’s set in a virtual reality world wherein the player’s wildest imagination is allowed to roam free.

We’ve already spotted killer car Christine, Freddy Krueger and even Chucky in the trailers so far, but you might’ve missed the Mortal Kombat nod in yesterday’s new one!

At the 1:15 mark in the new trailer, OASIS creator James Halliday lets players know that there’s an Easter egg within the VR experience; the first one to find it will inherit half a trillion dollars. This speech from Halliday is cut in with footage that reveals that egg, which is where you’ll spot a handful of iconic Mortal Kombat images.

Not only is the egg flanked by two dragons that sure look like the Mortal Kombat logo dragon, but statues of fighters Raiden, Sub-Zero and Scorpion also appear.

Check out the MK Easter eggs below!

Ready Player One arrives on March 30, 2018.

“The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.”

Spielberg directed from a screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline. The film was produced by Donald De Line, Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Dan Farah; with Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Chris DeFaria and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers.

Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “Mud”), Olivia Cooke (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl,” “Bates Motel”), Ben Mendelsohn (“Rogue One – A Star Wars Story,” “Bloodline”) and T.J. Miller (“Deadpool,” “Silicon Valley”), with Simon Pegg (the “Star Trek” movies, the “Mission: Impossible” movies) and Oscar winner Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies,” upcoming “Dunkirk”).

insidious 5 trailer

In the wake of last year’s box office hit Insidious: The Red Door, Sony has announced tonight that the next installment in the Insidious franchise has been dated for 2025 release.

You can expect the untitled next movie in theaters August 29, 2025.

Deadline notes in their report tonight that this particular project is NOT the previously announced spinoff movie Thread: An Insidious Tale, which doesn’t yet have a release date.

Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani will star in Thread: An Insidious Tale.

Director James Wan’s original Insidious movie in 2011 was followed by Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013), Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015), Insidious: The Last Key (2018), and last year’s Insidious: The Red Door, which became the highest grossing movie in the entire franchise thus far.

Needless to say, this franchise still has a lot of life left in it. Stay tuned for more.
