Warner Bros. Pictures has made a monstrous date shift for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, one that suggests they think they have a winner on their hands. Originally slated for release on March 22, 2019, Warners has moved the Michael Dougherty-directed sequel to an extremely strong May 31, 2019, date. To put it in perspective, this is similar to this year’s big summer kickoff releases that include Deadpool 2, Solo, and Jurassic World.
King of the Monsters will feature a host of giant monsters: not just the titular King himself, but also Mothra, Rodan, and G’s ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah! The film promises to be pretty epic, with star O’Shea Jackson Jr. recently teasing that we’ll “never forget” the final battle between Godzilla and King Ghidorah.
In King of the Monsters…
“When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”
Zhang Ziyi, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Bradley Whitford, Ken Watanabe, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance and Aisha Hinds star.
Dougherty directed from a script he wrote with Zach Shields.
