Allow me to introduce you to Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, the metal supergroup that you didn’t realize you needed until now. Featuring William DuVall (Alice in Chains), Brent Hinds (Mastodon), Ben Weinman (Dillinger Escape Plan), Pete Griffin (Dethklok), and Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta), the group is releasing their debut album Broken Lines on September 23rd via Party Smasher Inc./Cooking Vinyl.
DuVall spoke with Rock 98.9 about the group and the album, saying, “It has a lot of what people might expect in terms of heavy, progressive… a lot of riffing, a lot of stuff going on… There’s a feast for the senses. For all the musicians and musos out there, we’ve got you covered. But as much of that heavy, progressive stuff is there, there are also more, shall I say, straightforward, for lack of a better way of putting it, there’s more straightforward tunes, but they still have the drive and the attitude and the go-for-the-throat quality. But, you know, a couple of them you might even be able to dance to as much as headbang to. We all have eclectic tastes, and we wanted to represent all of that.”
Today, we’re giving you a taste of what’s to come by bringing you the exclusive premiere for their “Blood Moon” music video, which features the band members suffering torture at the hands of three Harajuku girls who are keen on inflicting as much pain as possible. I haven’t this much fun watching a video, which was directed by Josh Forbes (Contracted: Phase II), in a long time!
DuVall explains, ““The shoot was down and dirty and really fun. So many laughs on set. Cast and crew were terrific. Everyone went above and beyond to make this happen. And we got to be lo-fi thespians. Couldn’t have asked for more!”
