TheWrap is reporting that Tom Cruise (War of the Worlds, Mission Impossible, Legend, Top Gun), in preparation for his role in the upcoming movie adaptation of the 80′s musical Rock of Ages, has been taking vocal lessons from none other than Guns N Roses singer Axl Rose‘s vocal coach.
Director Adam Shankman says that Cruise has been practicing for at least five hour a day and that “…The prognosis is more than excellent.”
Sorry Shankman, I’m a bit skeptical. I’ll wait until clips from the movie pop up on YouTube. What? You thought I was going to go see this in theaters? HA!
Listen up all you Ziltoid lovers! The Devin Townsend Project will be the direct support for Children of Bodom on a full N. American tour this summer. Somewhere amidst the early 1980′s, I had gotten my hands on a VHS tape of George Romero‘s unique vampire vision, MARTIN. Once John Amplas’ razor went the forearm of the woman on the train – I was hooked. And not so much by the Tom Savini style gore, or George Romero reputation for entering legendary horror realms – but by the purity of it all – and the way the soundtrack, the film, the atmosphere and the abstract of it all blended together in such genre purity.
For many years after, the music has resonated in my mind. It is the direct link to the lingering memories of an exceptional genre film – and what I like to think of as its signature. I had the honor of being able to speak with MARTIN‘s soundtrack composer – Donald Rubinstein – recently. Although he is acclaimed and accomplished at Jazz and other score works that include George Romero’s BRUISER and KNIGHTRIDERS, we reflected on MARTIN alone, and how the magic, that is that score, came to be.
One tour that I’m really looking forward to is the Sinister Whisperz Tour, which features Thrill Kill Kult, 16Volt, and Twitch The Ripper (LOVE these guys!). My friend Audrey turned me on to ANR by shooting me a link to their song ‘Big Problem‘. The video plays out like a slasher film and the music in the beginning is VERY reminiscent of old John Carpenter soundtracks. Careful as there are some possible NSFW moments (nudity, violence, gore, the usual).
Bloody-Disgusting has scored an exclusive Top 10 list from Casey Ory, drummer of Canadian metal band Titan’s Eve. These guys have been making a lot of waves, topping all sorts of charts in Canada with their latest release, ‘The Divine Equal‘ as well as getting ready for a full North American tour (tour dates here).

Almost one year ago, Eric Whitacre put together 165 voices performing his piece ‘Lux Aurumque‘ from around the world to create the first YouTube Virtual Choir. Besides being a beautiful piece of music, what was so special about the piece is the scope and idea behind the project. These vocalists were alone, in their room, singing to a webcam. And in the end, their voice was put together with 164 other voices, all of whom did the exact same thing in another part of the world, to create something that can only be described as magical.
Now, Eric Whitacre is back with the Virtual Choir 2.0, a collection of over 2,000 videos from 58 countries around the world. This time, they are performing his piece ‘Sleep‘. Check it out after the jump. READ MORE
Roadrunner metal artists Cavalera Conspiracy have just released their latest album ‘Blunt Force Trauma‘ and Bloody-Disgusting scored an exclusive clip of concert footage from the bonus DVD. Check it out after the jump and see if you can resist buying the special edition afterwards. Seriously, who can resist a pissed off Brazilian guy causing hazardous-to-your-health mosh pits?
It’s been four years since we’ve gotten an album from the Beastie Boys (the last one being ‘The Mix Up‘). So, to hype up the upcoming release of ‘Hot Sauce Committee Pt. II’, they’ve released a video teaser that features pretty much every hot and recognizable comedian these days as well as a few other cameos. Check it out after the jump!
In Flames, who recently signed to Century Media Records (awesome decision, in my opinion), have announced the upcoming single ‘Deliver Us‘, which comes off of their soon to be released album, ‘Sounds Of A Playground Fading‘. Check out the single artwork below and keep your ears peeled for ‘Deliver Us‘, which will be released digitally on May 10th.
Skinny Puppy‘s Ogre and Mark Walk are preparing to unleash the fourth ohGr studio album, ‘Undeveloped‘, on May 10th. Ogre has stated that ‘Undeveloped‘ has a “soft theme of distorted sexuality”. Yeah, consider me hooked. Check out the album artwork below and check after the jump for a pretty horrific picture of Ogre and a track entitled ‘Welcome To Collidoskope‘.
Okay, who’s going to see 30 Seconds To Mars this weekend at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles? If you’re gonna be there, make sure to get there early to check out Frontline Brigade, who were personally asked by 30STM frontman Jared Leto to be the opening act. To build up some hype for these fine electro-punkers, Bloody-Disgusting scored Frontline Brigade drummer Bobby Alt‘s Top 10 Horror Movies, which you can check after the jump. Turns out the guy is good friends with Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs) and is dating Caroline D’Amore (Sorority Row). Some good people to know, right?
Queens Of The Stone Age are going to be releasing an expanded, re-mastered version of their debut album on April 19th (digital already out) and Bloody-Disgusting wants to hook one of you lucky readers up in celebration of this! Facebook is really a wonderful tool. Not only can you keep up with friends and all the BS that they go through each day (I really don’t care if your cat is sleeping at the foot of the bed and you think Mr. Whiskers is adorable), but they can share some of the Internet’s most amazing offerings with a simple click of a button (hint: ‘Like’ Bloody-Disgusting and get to sharing).
One such offering that I found this morning was from my pal Forest who shared what is quite possibly the greatest music video ever: Chris Dane Owen‘s ‘Shine on me‘. Dragons, witches, swords, sorcery, romance, skeletons, and more only just begin to describe the imagery you shall see after the jump.
Rock band Incubus have released ‘Adolescents‘, a new track from their upcoming album ‘If Not Now, When?‘. The album is slated to be released April 19th and is the first Incubus release since 2006′s ‘Light Grenades’. Check out the song below and let us know your thoughts.
Swedish prog-metal masters Pain Of Salvation have released a NSFW video for ‘Where It Hurts‘, which comes off their latest album, ‘Road Salt One‘. Watching the video, I was immediately struck by the feeling that I’d seen this video before. It didn’t take long at all to figure out which video I was thinking of (actually, it only took about a minute of watching ‘Where It Hurts‘). Check out the video below and the ‘original’ after the jump.
It was announced today via Opeth‘s Facebook that keyboardist Per Wiberg has quit Opeth and that a replacement will be announced soon. I really hope my April Fools’ joke didn’t cause this. Check below for a quote from frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt.
Mikael Åkerfeldt: ”Well, it’s been somewhat of a revolving door of members during the last couple of years, and now, Per is no longer a member. Mendez, Axe and Fredrik and I came to the decision that we should find a replacement for Per right after the recordings of the new album, and this came as no surprise to Per. He had, in turn, been thinking about leaving, so you could say it was a mutual decision. There’s no bad blood, just a relationship that came to an end, and that’s that. We wish Per the best, and he did a splendid job recording keyboards for the last record, which stands as his final recording with Opeth.”
I’m neither a cat nor dog person. Sure, I’d be happy with a german shepherd puppy but I’m really much more of a lizard kinda guy. Gimme a bearded dragon and I’m one thrilled pet owner. However, I realize that other people might not share my pet choice and stick with the tried and true cat method. But what happens when you have too many cats? Like, WAY too many? Find out after the jump.
Although no tour dates have been set, that hasn’t stopped the official announcement of The Summer Slaughter Tour which features headline The Black Dahlia Murder and support coming from Whitechapel, Darkest Hour, Six Feet Under, As Blood Runs Black, Oceano, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Dying Fetus, and Powerglove. Fans can also vote for which band should be the opener on the tour circuit at the Official Facebook.
Horrorcore hip-hop legend Brotha Lynch Hung has released the 5th video in the ‘Coathanga Strangla‘ storyline, ‘Mannibalector‘. The song comes from the ‘Coathanga Strangla‘ album, which hits stores tomorrow. You can still pre-order a deluxe package, which includes an autographed album, a t-shirt, and a sticker.
Okay, admission time: I loved ‘Fallen‘. It wasn’t a musical masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a fun bubblegum pop hard rock album that wasn’t pretentious and had a lot of catchy songs. Now, ‘The Open Door‘ on the other hand was pretty awful. Nothing on that album stood out to me and I quickly shelved it. So, I’m kinda on the fence after reading that Amy Lee and the Evanescence crew are supposedly entering the studio to record their third album with producer Nick Rasculinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones, Alice In Chains)
Amy Lee: ”We can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on. We’ve written more than an album of songs. We’ve been finding ourselves, reinventing our sound, experimenting with things we’ve never done before and at the same time embracing the things we love most about Evanescence. This journey has made us the strongest we’ve ever been as a band, and I am in love with the music. Nick Rasculinecz is the perfect fit for this record and we are all very excited to get into the studio together.”
What are your thoughts readers? Ready for some more Evanescence?
