HIM Release Alice In Wonderland-Inspired Video For “All Lips Go Blue”

Finnish love metal band HIM have released a new music video for “All Lips Go Blue”, which comes from their new album Tears On Tape (iTunes). The Eugene Riecansky-directed black and white video is highly stylized and reminded me a great deal of Alice In Wonderland, with a larger than life chessboard and eerie, almost skeleton-like trees. Give it a watch below! READ MORE

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Release Video For “Mosquito”

Indie rock group Yeah Yeah Yeahs have released a video for “Mosquito”, the title track of their new album. The video is a one-take picture-in-picture with a closeup of a young boy’s hand as a mosquito is drinking a great amount of blood while the PIP is of the young boy’s face. Things turn quite psychedelic and, ultimately, pretty bloody. Check it out below! READ MORE

[OMFG] Nine Inch Nails Releases Incredibly Rare “Broken” Video!!!

Trent Reznor is embracing the power of the Internet like no other, using it to continually engage fans of Nine Inch Nails, and his new project, How to Destroy Angels.

Bloody’s Jonathan Barkan recently shared his top NIN music videos, which prompted me to re-watch them all. It also had me obsessing over the unreleased “Broken” short, a bootlegged video that resides in my old room in my parent’s house in Chicago.

Thanks to Reznor, I won’t have to wait until August to watch. The Academy Award winning musician has uploaded the never-before-released “Broken” short to Vimeo so everyone can enjoy the 1993 masterpiece.

This 1993 short film, directed by Peter Christopherson, collects the videos from the NIN Broken EP and ties them together as a “snuff” film. It was never officially released due to its graphic content, but was leaked in the 90s, and became a widely-traded VHS bootleg. A high quality burnable DVD version has since leaked onto torrent sites.

It’s is warned, though, that it was never officially released due to its graphic content (VERY NSFW). READ MORE

[Album Review] TesseracT ‘Altered State’

When it was announced that TesseracT’s second full-length, Altered State, was going to be another “one track broken into several tracks” situation (exactly like their 2010 Concealing Fate EP), I was both extremely excited and full of uncertainty and hesitancy. After all, the band had struck gold with Concealing Fate. Could lightning strike twice? It was a question that stuck with me until I received a copy of their latest album. And now, having listened to the album more than once (read: a veritable sh*t ton of times), I can give my answer. Head on below for my thoughts. READ MORE

Full Gigantour 2013 Lineup And Schedule Announced

Fans of Megadeth can look forward to seeing the band this summer on this year’s Gigantour. Support for the thrash metal legends will come from Black Label Society. Also on the tour will be Device, which features Disturbed singer David Draiman, Hellyeah, Newsted, and Death Division. All bands were personally picked by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine.

This year’s power-packed lineup is probably the best Gigantour yet, and we’ve had some pretty massive Gigantours over the years. Gigantour 2013 brings four of my favorite bands, each centered around a superstar. With Zakk, David, Vinnie, and Jason there are going to be fans from Ozzy to Disturbed to Pantera to Metallica and everything that’s metal in-between! Don’t miss the metal festival of the summer!

Head on below for the full touring schedule. READ MORE

Twisted Music Video Of The Week Vol. 83: Harm “Argue And Grin”

I’ve had a really long week with a ton of people talking my ear off in public. I go to the store and people want to chat. I go to a concert and people want to chat. I go to the damn bathroom and people take the next urinal and want to discuss things. ARGH!!!! Why won’t these people leave me alone???

That’s why I resonated with “Argue And Grin”, this week’s Twisted Music Video Of The Week, which comes from Harm. The video shows the band performing in a rather grungy looking basement while a separate storyline shows a woman getting her mouth sewn shut. Fun fact for those of you who are less squeamish, director Darko Dan confirmed to BD that the actress actually got her mouth sewn shut for this video! Talk about commitment! The song comes from the band’s 2012 release The Nine, which you can snag on iTunes. Check out the video below! READ MORE

R.I.P. Slayer Guitarist Jeff Hanneman Passes Away At Age 49

Terrible news has hit the metal world as it has been announced that Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who was an original member, has passed away at age 49 due to liver failure. Hanneman had not been a touring member of Slayer since 2011, when he contracted necrotizing fasciitis, also known as the flesh-eating disease. Continuing health problems would not allow him to rejoin his bandmates.

The band posted the following message on their Facebook: “Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Our Brother Jeff Hanneman, May He Rest In Peace (1964 – 2013)

Our deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the family, friends, and fans of Jeff Hanneman. READ MORE

Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ Done In 8-Bit Chiptune

The first CD I ever bought was Pink Floyd‘s Dark Side Of The Moon, the classic prog rock album that has become a cultural icon. I had never listened to much Floyd but everyone kept going on and on about it so I just caved and gave it a listen. Yeah, let’s just say that it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I also grew up in the era of 8-bit video games and the music that they held within. I will always have a fondness in my heart for beeps and boops that are turned into gloriously catchy tunes. That’s why I wanted to share with you the 8-bit chiptunes version of Dark Side Of The Moon as done by Brad Smith. Head on below for the full album! READ MORE

[OMFG] The Cthulu Mythos Told In A 5-Minute Music Video. Using Puppets.

I’ve long loved the Lovecraft-ian style horror films, the ones that have a great deal of supernatural, cultist mystery. Oh, and the tentacles are a big draw as well. Something about tentacled creatures just gets my horror imagination churning in overtime.

So when I was sent an email with the subject line “Puppet Cthulu Music Video”, I probably clicked on that link in near record time. And what I saw definitely did not disappoint. Director Anthony Carpendale created a comedy-horror video for the song “Sleeve”, from UK prog rock band Thumpermonkey. Featuring the full Cthulu mythos of H.P. Lovecraft squeezed into 5 minutes, it’s well worth giving a look. Check it out below along with a short making-of video!

“Sleeve” comes from Thumpermonkey’s Sleep Furiously album, which you can pick up here READ MORE

Palms (Feat. Members Of Isis And Deftones) Releases First Single “Patagonia”

Supergroup Palms has released their first single, a song entitled “Patagonia”, which you can listen to below. The song comes from the band’s debut album, which will be released June 25th via Ipecac Records. Palms features Deftones singer Chino Moreno and ISIS members Jeff Caxide, Aaron Harris, and Clifford Meyer.

Moreno talks about working with the members of ISIS: “A chance to work with the guys from ISIS sounded like a lot of fun. I’ve always been into the atmospheric sounds they had created with that project and felt my sense of melody would meld well with theirs.

Aaron Harris on the origin of Palms: “After a little time Jeff, Cliff, and I decided that it was insane that we all still lived here in Los Angeles and weren’t playing together. It just sort of happened naturally, probably because we have been playing together for so long, and things started to come together. But we didn’t want to be instrumental: We wanted vocals. We just weren’t exactly sure who that would be at first.

Also below are dates for the band’s mini West Coast tour. READ MORE

There Is A 212 Track Twin Peaks Soundtrack And I WANT IT

My pal Adam Barnick (who directed this fantastic video) alerted me that there is something called The Twin Peaks Archive. It is a massive collection of all the unused (at least in their full length) music from the TV series as well as the prequel film. Composed by Angelo Badalamenti (who scored The City Of Lost Children, one of my favorite films), the 212 track collection has not been released on physical but is available to purchase on-line as individual tracks (around $.99 or less each) or as a full bundle. While the $77 price tag of the bundle might make you balk a bit, remember that it averages out to about $.36 per track, which I think is a steal. Also, the files come either in 320kbps nitrate or Apple lossless, so you’re getting some fantastic sounding tracks. The bundle can be ordered here while the individual tracks can be cherry picked here and clicking on ‘Explore’. READ MORE

[Album Review] Purson ‘The Circle And The Blue Door’

Hailing from London, Purson is a five-piece band that seems very displaced, sounding like an amalgamation of 60’s folk and 70’s heavy metal with pinches of classic prog influences. Self described as “vaudeville carny psych”, the band has jut released their debut album The Circle And The Blue Door via Metal Blade Records, a somewhat interesting choice yet oddly fitting. But does the group pull off this style or does it fall short as something campy and trite? Find out below! READ MORE

Bigfoot Metal Exists. I’m Not Joking.

I have heard of so many different genres of metal it’s come to a point that I need a symbolic road map to make my way through it all. Is something progressive tech metal or is it djent? Is it grindcore or goregrind? The list goes on and on. However, there is a new genre that I was introduced to today that may very well stand out with some ease: Neadercore.

That’s what Kansas City Bigfoot/Sasquatch-themed death metal band Troglodyte classify themselves as. And with their imagery and attitude, I’d say they’ve hit the nail right on the head.

For all you lovers of the giant hairy folk who want to hear the music of their people (people?), head on below to stream the entirety of the band’s first album Welcome To Boggy Creek. You can also snag their latest album Don’t Go In The Woods here. READ MORE
