Director in Talks For ‘Poltergeist’ Remake
With all of the fowl stories circulating on the web as of late, we’ve been working extra hard in confirming our news before posting. Although, even when we confirm a story, sometimes the parties involved still deny it (like Natalie Portman in SUSPIRIA). I don’t blame ’em, because if the deal is yet to be signed, who is to say that the news hitting the web might not quirk the deal? This afternoon we learned that Vadim Perelman is in heavy talks to helm the remake of POLTERGEIST for MGM, which was (finally) officially announced here this month. Obviously, until a press release hits the web confirming the story, nothing is official. Personally, sticking the director of HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG behind the lens of a horror film (an important one at that), sounds like the worst idea ever to me…

When nurse Julia finds herself trapped inside the home of her dementia patient, she begins to suspect things are not what they seem; something demonic is seeping through the cracks of this old home. Trapped and with nowhere to turn, Julia soon finds herself in battle to rid the house of this evil before it is too late.

“This film depicts the most harrowing 90 minutes of our protagonist’s life, and I felt that the most visceral way to really feel this was to do a single-shot film,” O’Brien previously teased. “We are with her every step and misstep she takes – through the unraveling of the mystery to the horror of her discovery. It’s a fun, twisty roller-coaster ride that puts a new spin on exorcisms.”
Bury the Devil is the first installment in a planned trilogy. The prequel, Bury the Devil: Origin, is already in development with O’Brien returning to the helm.
O’Brien produces along with Philip Kalin-Hajdu (The Sacrifice Game) and Benoit Beaulieu (Turbo Kid).
