I now officially feel like Halloween in only weeks away as this week’s Horror In Your House is one of the most jammed-packed since this time last year. Arriving on DVD at stores everywhere today are Ghost House Underground’s eight quality horror films, Image Entertainment is releasing Stuart Gordon’s STUCK and Anchor Bay just unloaded a monster HALLOWEEN box set! BOOK OF LORE: Phoenix

Welcome to Latonsville, a small town with big secrets. Strange tales hide in every corner and some just might be true.Twenty years ago a notorious killer known as the Devil’s Left Hand kidnapped eleven babies and left local police stumped. They never found the killer or the babies. When Rick discovers his girlfriend has been murdered in the same grotesque fashion as the Devil’s Left Hand crimes, he begins a quest to unravel his town’s unspeakable past.Using a cryptic encyclopedia of local murders called the “Book of Lore”, Rick and his friends attempt to uncover the horrific events of the last twenty years.As the bodies pile, Rick realizes the answer to his town’s past just may lie within the pages of the “Book of Lore”.

TEX SAYS: Baltimore filmmaker Chris LaMartina follows up his film DEAD TEENAGERS with this semi-sequel. Microbudget horror fans take note, LaMartina sold his entire collection of horror films, DVDs and 16mm prints to fund this project. Now that’s commitment!

VAMPIRE’S EMBRACE: Blood and flesh fly as two vampire sisters battle for supremacy and the love of a human man. THROUGH DEAD EYES: James Doohan stars in this gritty and horrifying murder mystery about the frantic hunt for a homicidal maniac.

DANCE OF THE DEAD: Lionsgate (TEX’S PICK OF THE WEEK)

On the night of the big high school prom, the dead rise to eat the living, and the only people who can stop them are the losers who couldn’t get dates to the dance.

TEX SAYS: It’s been been 7 months since I saw DANCE OF THE DEAD at the SXSW film festival and it’s STILL the best horror film of 2008!

DARK FLOORS: Lionsgate

A father, concerned for his autistic daughter’s health, sees her immediate removal from the hospital as her only option. An elevator break-down prevents a smooth exit and renders them trapped with others. This is only the beginning of their descent into hell. When the doors finally open, the hospital appears mysteriously deserted. As mutilated bodies are found, creatures from a dark world start a frightening attack. It soon becomes clear that the survival of the group may rest solely on the little girl.

DEADLY GAME: Cinema Epoch

Gamers from all over Holland have gathered at a game convention to find out about the latest game. After the convention, most of the gamers go home, but for a few of them, the night has just begun. They have all received text messages saying that they should stay in the building after everyone has left and play the game. Since the prize money is 1 million euros, they all decide to stay. What they do not know is that the subject of the game is surviving – in real life. They soon realize that they are trapped inside the building with a serial killer after them.

HALLOWEEN 30th Anniversary Box Set: Anchor Bay

This 6-disc re-release includes HALLOWEEN plus the Extended Version and the Blu-Ray disc, HALLOWEEN IV, HALLOWEEN V and the HALLOWEEN: 25 YEARS OF TERROR documentary. The limited edition of 20,000 units also includes a latex replica of the famous Michael Myers mask.

TEX SAYS: This is a pretty good deal considering they toss in the Blu-Ray disc and the Extended TV version. Pick it up and give you copies of the other films to your friends for “trick or treat”

HOODOO FOR VOODOO: Abyssmal

When a group of college kids win a trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, they soon find themselves on a rollercoaster ride of survival as bodies start piling up around them. After the workers at a local Voodoo tourist trap suddenly begin turning up dead, the group must band together and try to stay alive long enough to figure out who’s behind this wicked plot…or maybe not! Because, hey, who can be inconvenienced at the biggest party of the year?

TEX SAYS: A virtual scream queen hall of fame, this flick from Director Steven Shea features Linnea Quigley, Debbie Rochon and Tiffany Shepis. I guess Brinke Stevens was busy when they lensed this one!

ICONS OF HORROR: HAMMER FILMS (CURSE OF THE MUMMY’S TOMB, THE TWO FACES OF DR. JEKYLL, SCRAEM OF FEAR, THE GORGON; 2-disc set): Sony Pictures

THE CURSE OF THE MUMMY’S TOMB–When European Egyptologists Dubois, Giles and Bray discover the tomb of the Egyptian prince Ra, American entrepreneur and investor Alexander King insists on shipping the treasures and sarcophagus back to England for tour and display. Once there, someone with murderous intent has discovered the means of waking the centuries dead prince…

SCREAM OF FEAR–After narrowly surviving an accident in which she nearly drowned, the wheelchair bound Penny Appleby returns home to live with her widowed step-mother Jane on the French Riviera. She begins to question her sanity after several times seeing her father’s corpse around the house and its grounds, and enlists the help of the friendly chauffeur Bob while attending Doctor Gerrard acts in a suitably sinister manner. No one is who they seem in this tale of intrigue and suspense.

THE TWO FACES OF DR. JEKYLL–Dr. Henry Jekyll experiments with scientific means of revealing the hidden, dark side of man and releases a murderer from within himself.

THE GORGON–In early-twentieth-century middle-Europe, villagers are literally becoming petrified. Although the authorities try to hush the matter up it is apparent that at the full moon, Medusa leaves her castle lair and anyone looking on her face is turned to stone. When this fate befalls a visitor, experts from the University of Leipzig arrive to try and get to the bottom of it all.

THE LAST HOUSE IN THE WOODS: Lionsgate

All Aurora and Rino wanted was to find a secluded place where they could make love in nature, but the appearance of three sadistic bullies soon sends a romantic evening alone careening into violence. In the ensuing struggle, Rino is beaten mercilessly and the three intruders prepare to rape Aurora. Mercifully, the couple is rescued by tough talking Clara and pistol-packing Antonio. After chasing the attackers away, Clara and Antonio offer to take Rino and Aurora to their remote cabin in order to recover, an offer which the frightened youngsters appreciatively accept. Upon arriving at the isolated abode, however, Rino and Aurora quickly realize that their troubles may have just begun. Not only does Clara and Antonio have a young boy named Guilio with some seriously intimidating incisors, but the same sadists who tormented them in the woods soon turn up for an encore performance. By the time the morning sun casts away this grueling night of slaughter, the ones who survived will pray for death to release them from the horrors they have experienced.

NO MAN’S LAND: THE RISE OF REEKER: Lionsgate

A sheriff and his son try to apprehend bank robbers on their way to Mexico only to find that they are both being stalked by a far more deadly enemy – the fire-wielding Reeker.

ROCKY HORROR TRIBUTE SHOW: Kultur

The Rocky Horror Show was born at the Royal Court’s tiny Theatre Upstairs on June 16, 1973, and went on to become an international stage smash hit and a major motion picture. Now, Rocky Horror Company and The Royal Court Theatre present this historic program, Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Tribute Show.

In 2006, Richard O’Brien, who wrote the book, music and lyrics, rewrote the narration for the show and a cast of performers was put together from previous stars of the show and other amazing performers, including Richard O’Brien, Patricia Quinn, Little Nell and Rayner Bourton, on stage for the first time in 33 years, back where it all began. They are joined by one of the best Franks ever, Anthony Head, as well as original Transylvanians from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

ROOM 205: Lionsgate

Wanting to start fresh, Katrine moves from the province into a dormitory in Copenhagen and enrolls at the University. She makes an enemy of fellow student Sanne when she starts to date her ex-boyfriend. Sanne and her friends try to bully Katrine out of the dormitory by frightening her with an old myth surrounding the ghost of a former resident. The myth soon becomes a reality when Katrine sets the ghost free and it starts a terrifyingly gruesome attack on the dormitory’s residents. Only Katrine knows the fate of the remaining residents, however, no one believes her story, and they accuse her of the series of mysterious murders.

On her way home, Brandi accidentally steers her car into a homeless man, sending him flying through the windshield. Not wanting to jeopardize a possible job promotion, she chooses not to get him medical help, leaving him clinging to life in her garage. But soon her psyche begins to unravel as captor and captive are pitted against each other in a bloody…even outrageous battle for survival.

TEX SAYS: Check out Stuart Gordon’s take on this Law and Order worthy true story! Chillingly satirical.

2008 is the 40th anniversary of Night of the Living Dead. Here is your chance to revisit the 25th anniversary celebration an extraordinary affair back in 1993. One of my personal favorite horror movies of all time, 1987’s gateway horror classic The Gate is opening back up on May 14 with a brand new Blu-ray SteelBook release from Lionsgate!
