While the “Midnight Madness’ portion of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival is loaded with films I’m dying to see (like Romero’s Survival of the Dead and Filmax’s REC 2), I always have a soft spot for the film’s that don’t have a name behind it. Such the case with Sean Byrne’s Aussie thriller The Loved Ones, which looks like it could be this year’s Mandy Lane. We did some digging and was able to get our hands on a few hi-res stills from the film that follows Brent, a 17 year old student, still grieving for his father, who declines an invitation to the school formal from Lola, the quietest girl in school. When Lola and her father kidnap Brent he must fight to survive the macabre celebration they have in store for him.
