Back in September we broke the news exclusively that Paramount Pictures had begun discussing the possibilities of bringing Samara back to theaters in The Ring 3D. As much as Avatar is annoying the crap out of me, it looks as if the new-found 3-D craze has lit a fire under the studios ass. Heat Vision reports that David Loucka (Dream House, House at the End of the Street) has been tapped to pen the script. The plot of the original film centered on a young journalist investigating a mysterious videotape that seemed to cause the death of anyone within a week of viewing it. The new film is being fashioned as more teen-centric than the first, and though the logline is being kept under wraps, the aim is to reinvent the franchise. One potential scenario involves teens finding a VHS player that still works. Sounds pretty cool to me. I’d love nothing more than to see the film hit some of those emotional strings that Gore Verbinki’s 2002 remake did.
