A new 6-page story of Robert Kirkman’s epic zombie drama The Walking Dead is set to appear in Playboy Magazine’s new issue which hits the stands next week. The 6-page story, written by Kirkman and drawn by artist Charlie Adlard, will tell the origin of the character Michonne, who is set to make her debut in the television series in the final episode of season two. No word yet on if the story will be reprinted in the regular issues of The Walking Dead. Read on for the skinny…
The story will venture back in time to reveal Michonne’s past, and how she first encountered the zombies. Specifically, the story focuses on her life as a plain jane lawyer, and reveals how she got to be so good with that sword. Expect to see a very, very different Michonne, who isn’t the tough as nails gal we’ve come to know and love. I have a feeling female fans of TWD won’t be running out to get their hands on this one.
And for the record, yeah, we think it’s weird too. Why would one of the most empowering female characters in comics today be subject to a magazine that exists solely to exploit the female body? Your guess is as good as ours, but my bet is that money had something to do with it, and perhaps a lifetime subscription of nuddie mags for Kirkman. Hopefully this story will be released elsewhere so we don’t have to go out and buy Playboy for ten bucks only to read a few pages.
