Guillermo Del Toro Updates ‘Haunted Mansion’ and ‘Mountains of Madness’

Collider caught up with director/producer Guillermo del Toro who updated them on two major horror projects. He reveals that Matthew Robbins (Mimic, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark) is penning the live-action Haunted Mansion project for Disney that will know if it’ll go come January. He said it will be PG-13 and it will be a “dark ride”, adding that he may or may not direct. As for the epic At the Mountains of Madness, he revealed that Dennis Muren is designing the monsters. Muren told him “you’ve never seen monsters like this.” He went on to say the film isn’t greenlit yet, he’ll be talking to some Lovecraft scholars to get their input on the script, hopes to make the movie without interference, explained how he got James Cameron involved, and says the film suffers from two big issues: it’s a hardcore R-rated movie and it’s a horror tentpole with a big budget.
