Despite charging outrageous 3-D ticket prices, Rogue Pictures’ My Soul to Take (review) was crushed at the box office taking the #5 spot and pulling in an estimated $6.9m on close to an insane 2,700 screens at 2,572 locations. 3D accounted for around 86 percent of its business. Box Office Mojo reports that My Soul to Take had the worst opening yet for a 3D movie playing at over 1,500 venues, claiming the title from Alpha and Omega. Maybe people are getting smart to the scam? It was also well behind Piranha 3D‘s $10.1 million launch, and it had one of the weakest starts of its genre, grabbing about the same attendance as The Return and Sorority Row.
