We’re being told that Jason Blum and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones have acquired the rights to produce an English-language remake to Chukiat Sakveerakul’s Thai thriller 13 Beloved, which is being shopped as 13: Game of Death here in the States. The project had been sitting on the dusty shelf of Dimension Films for years now, but it has since falen out of option.
Here’s the original film’s plot synopsis: “How far would you go to be rich beyond your dreams? A down-on-his luck salesman has lost his job, his car and his girlfriend. When a mysterious cell phone caller offers him $100 million to play a “game show” featuring 13 secret challenges, he is in. The catch? The tests grow increasingly intense and morally questionable, but if he quits he loses everything.”
Blum is one of the hottest genre producers in town having been responsible for all three Paranormal Activity films, along with James Wan’s upcoming Insidious, Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem, and Barry Levinson’s Isopod. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones has executive produced Skyline, along with the upcoming releases of Insidious, Ispopod and The Lords of Salem.
