Twentieth Century Fox’s ONLY genre film arriving in theaters this year is Rise of the Apes, the Rupert Wyatt-directed prequel to Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes redo that stars James Franco, John Lithgow, Freida Pinto, Andy Serkis, Brian Cox, and Tom Felton.
In a release shuffle, Fox has moved Apes to this coming August 5.
The first image released in February features Franco as a driven scientist who becomes a crucial figure in the war between humans and apes.
Described as an origin story, Apes is set in present day San Francisco and deals with the aftermath of man’s experiments with genetic engineering that lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. In theaters November 23.
