Oscar-winning Jennifer Lawrence has officially been set to star in the sci-fi movie The Flood, from writer-director Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Weapons), Deadline reports today.
New Line/Warner Bros. will release The Flood in theaters August 11, 2028, with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment producing.
Plot details are scarce, but Cregger did warn in his recent Reddit AMA not to expect full-blown horror compared to his previous films: “Flood is not quite as horror central as the other movies (altho it might be the most unsettling) and it does have horror moments and aspects.”
One Cregger signature will continue, though: his unique approach to narrative structure. He told Deadline that The Flood “is another movie that is structurally bizarre. Like Barbarian and Weapons, it doesn’t jump perspective, but it structurally is, I think, dexterous.”

Entertainment.
Said Cregger, “Mike, Pam and the whole Warner Bros./New Line team were an absolute dream to collaborate with on Weapons, and I couldn’t be happier to dive in with them again. Jennifer is one of a kind, and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role.“
What exactly that role entails remains a mystery for now, but Cregger considers this his most disturbing yet so chances are Lawrence’s character will be put through the wringer. Lawrence’s genre credits include Mother!, House at the End of the Street, and the upcoming What Happens At Night.
