TV: Director Takes His Apocalyptic Fetish To Both Heaven and Hell

ABC has ordered a drama script to pilot from film director Roland Emmerich, reports Variety.

The helmer behind Anonymous, Independence Day and 2012 has teamed with Mark Gordon Co. on the untitled project, which marks the first drama pilot pickup for the Alphabet going into the 2012-13 season.

Set in New York City, the story is set against the backdrop of the presidential race of 2012, when a young astrophysics student learns his destiny lies not in science but somewhere between heaven and hell.

The project comes under Gordon’s first-look deal with ABC Studios, which was signed last April.

Emmerich, who will direct the pilot, wrote the script with Harald Kloser.
