Confirmed. Prometheus has been officially rated “R” for “sci-fi violence including some intense images, and brief language.”
A lot of people are talking about how an AMC presale ticket stub (via Collider) for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus confirms that it has an “R” rating. While I actually do think the film will be “R”, I’m basing that more on recent statements by Tom Rothman and Ridley Scott than I am this image. Rothman recently stated that the film “would not be compromised” and Scott declared that it would be his director’s cut hitting cinemas. So whether or not it’s “PG13” or “R” – it’s his vision.
That being said, the MPAA has yet to announce the rating for Prometheus. These things aren’t secrets, it’s just not announced. So I don’t know why we think they’d announce it only to the person entering the rating info into AMC’s computer system – they’re probably just assuming (along with their colleagues buttering the popcorn) that it’s “R” just like the rest of us are. So I don’t think this ticket proves much of anything, but I’m pretty sure this is what they’ll look like anyway. It should also be noted that AMC listed the rating of American Reunion as “PG13” and that didn’t turn out to be the case.
In theaters June 8, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Guy Pearce, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Benedict Wong, Emun Elliott, Ben Foster, Patrick Wilson all star.
