Trailer For Sam Raimi Produced ‘The Possession’ Is Here!!! And It’s Great!

On August 31 Lionsgate will open their haunted dibbuk box when they release The Possession, the Sam Raimi Ghost House Pictures produced supernatural chiller, in theaters everywhere. Directed by Ole Bornedal, the film looks like it recaptures some of that old-school Raimi spirit! I’m so tired of boring possession thrillers and this looks like anything but! The last 30 seconds in particular pack a wallop!

The film starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport and Natasha Calis is said to be in the vein of The Exorcist or The Shining, based on real events that transpired after a family wound up in possession of a haunted box, setting off a harrowing struggle to rid themselves of the box’s evil curse.

The film, “is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

Nope. Once again, a great story that could have been a great film is now one last echo from the asian remake era, disguised as an entry in the ongoing exorcism revival.

ONly thing that looks Asian remake to me are the fingers in the mouth. Rest of it looks more like Drag Me To Hell.

I’m dissapointed. It just seems generic like its title. It also seems like a huge Exorcist clone which I didn’t think it would be.

I guess I can kind of see where you’re coming from. I like the energy at the end though.

I was waiting around for this thing and waiting for it to be boring, and it wasn’t boring.

I’ll still see it. It’s PG-13 rating worries me, wish it was R like it originally was. Love Kyra Sedgwick. And anyone know what the music at the end is?

I think this looks fantastic! I love the second half of the trailer, especially the cinematography at the gas station!!

Looks pretty damn good. I don’t believe for a minute that this really happened though.

I think this looks fucking great. Anyone who complains about a PG13 rating is an idiot, the only thing that means in this day and age is no nudity and no fucks..

Looks like Drag Me To Hell? You serious? What part of that looks like DMTH? Please, I’ll give you as much time as you need to describe, in detail, what you mean… go a head… I’m waiting.

In the meantime, the PG13 rating isn’t a big deal. This is a possession film here, not a graphic serial killer/slasher film. The only reason this would be rated R would be for language. Films dealing with possession have always relied heavily on imagery and the overall vibe of the film to get the point across, not gore. So the film can be completely fine with a PG13 rating.

It doesn’t look like a clone or anything, but you can certainly feel Raimi’s style and energy. Which is kind of the antithesis of a J-Horror remake.

I really like the idea that there is something physically forming inside of her. Some conventional imagery, yes, it goes with the genre, but some promising new bits too.

Trailer For Sam Raimi Produced ‘The Possession’ Is Here!!! And It’s… Generic as Fuck. Agree with “Somethings Wrong With Kevin”, looks a lot like The Unborn which is not a good sign.

Makes me think of Mothman Prophecies, and those other creepy darma-thrillers from the early 2000′s. Think I’ll wait until I can watch it in my living room on a boring Sunday afternoon.

That looks lame and the PG-13 rating is a buzzkill. Way too many possession horror movies as of late.

Seems good but I’m not getting my hopes up on this movie. Maybe it will prove me wrong when I see it.
