[OMFG]: First Trailer For ‘Dredd’

Judge Dredd is one of the most celebrated comics from publisher 2000 AD. While some of you may remember the horrible adaptation with Sylvester Stallone, try to put that one behind you because there is a new Dredd in town. The new Dredd film is set for release this coming September, and it stars Karl Urban (Star Trek, The Bourne Supremacy), and is directed by Pete Travis (Endgame). For those of you unfamiliar with Judge Dredd, it follows a team of futuristic police officers who act as judge, jury, and executioner, taking down crime in the meanest way possible. You can check out the stunning first official trailer after the jump.

UPDATE: It looks like Lionsgate keep pulling the trailer from YouTube, but you can check it out for yourself if you feel like searching a bit. I will post the official one as soon as it’s up!

UPDATE 2: The trailer below is now in HD and it should be working just fine.

  • Jonathan Barkan

I’ll go on record as saying that, for as flawed and cheesy Stallone’s Judge Dredd was, it was visually great and a really fun movie. Plus, screaming, “I AM THE LAW!!!” in Stallone’s voice is way too much fun.

    • Lonmonster

It’s so bad! But I can’t turn down any Stallone movie.

    • i have to admit i have a bit of a soft spot for the stallone movie as well….hopefully this one will actually do it justice
(i didnt do that on purpose)

  • K-Dogg

I love Karl Urban, But I have to say that didn’t really impress me a lot. Heck, Guy Pearce’s Lockout looked wicked, and that sucked ass; The trailer for Urban’s Pathfinder looked awesome, and that was god awful.

  • killrobot

looks like they pulled the trailer already, it’s all over youtube though. it looks like a modernized 80s/90s style action movie, awesome.

  • djblack1313

they are probably pulling the trailer (and they SHOULD because of this) because in the last shot in the trailer it shows Dredd throwing the antagonist out a window. it looks like this is a huge spoiler. if this is how Ma-Ma dies, i’ll be pissed.
i think this looks decent. i wasn’t blown away by any of the action scenes in this. that being said, i fucking LOVE Lena Headey and her being a vicious antagonist looks awesome. she’s the draw for me with the movie (if i go see it). from what i see, i like what Olivia Thirlby as Dredd’s partner.

  • djblack1313

oh, the new trailer for Neeson’s TAKEN 2 is out today and it looks fucking awesome!!!!! just sayin’.

  • heyblinken

this movie looks like a ripoff of The Raid Redemption. I agree with Jonathan that Stallones is so much better, cheesy and all

    • Lonmonster

Plotwise, it’s similar to a lot of sci fi SWAT movies. But I think it looks like a great action flick. Also, I love the comics so I’m stoked to see it on the big screen.

  • djblack1313

sorry to beat this topic to death but is anyone else pissed they seem to show Dredd killing the lead antagonist (in what looks like him killing her in the end of the movie)???? WTF is with so many trailers/teasers ruining their movies?

    • Lonmonster

I doubt that it is how he dies. Lionsgate would never let that fly.

  • j.c

I was going to mention The Raid as well, but this looks like fun and Ill be checking it out, As for the Stallone film, yeah,as much as I hate the term,ts kind of a guilty pleasure. I own a copy and Ill leave it at that.

  • divisionbell

This looks kinda bland. Didn’t really excite me at all.

  • Evil_Flip

Yeah, it’s a bit underwhelming. Urban looks kinda small for his suit and helmet. And it looks more like what only the first act should be. but maybe it is. Then again, if it’s about a drugs that makes you feel like everything is in slowmotion they need all the time they can get xD Thus far I’m afraid this will be one of those movies where the film makers ignore the previous film(s) while their own movie sucks even worse (like with Punisher: warzone, Ghostrider 2 etc.)

    • Lonmonster

It’s not meant to be a sequel, it’s actually just another adaptation of the long-running comic book series. I for one hope they ignore the first adaptation altogether.
