New Poster For ‘The Possession’ Is Unbearably Generic

We got our hands on a new poster for Lionsgate’s The Possession, and it looks like every other poster for every other haunting/possession movie ever made. The trailer looks great – so why can’t we have something cool for this movie? Moths. Woot.

The film starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport and Natasha Calis is said to be in the vein of The Exorcist or The Shining, based on real events that transpired after a family wound up in possession of a haunted box, setting off a harrowing struggle to rid themselves of the box’s evil curse.

Directed by Ole Bornedal, the Sam Raimi/Ghost House Pictures produced supernatural chiller is in theaters everywhere August 31. The film, “is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

I agree. I wanted to be excited for Dibbuk box, but everything including the name has been geared to “me too” cinema going. It’s like the creators of this film are terrified to try something original.

A high-budget studio horror flick produced by Ghost House with an A-list cast…my hopes are not very high. To share Nothing333′s sentiment, things seemed to be going downhill since retitling it to something as bland and generic as “The Possession” from something as curiosity-baiting as “Dibbuk Box”. Trailer looks…ok, at best, but I’m not gonna hold my breath for this one.

Also, and this is just a ridiculous personal bias, Kyra Sedgwick’s face just bugs me. No idea why, but every time I see an ad for that terrible TNT show she’s in I just wanna punch her.

    I actually like the poster.

I’ll only see this movie if a) the reviews are looking somewhat good and b) there is nothing out at the movies that I want to see. Otherwise, I’ll wait until DVD release or pass.
