IFC Acquires ‘American Psycho’ Director’s ‘Moth Diaries

Published

IFC Films has acquired U.S. rights to director Mary Harron’s The Moth Diaries three months after the gothic thriller played at the Venice and Toronto film festivals. The buzz surrounding the film was highly negative.

“The Moth Diaries,” based on the novel by Rachel Klein, was adapted by Harron (director of American Psycho) and stars Lily Cole, Sarah Gadon, Sarah Bolger and Scott Speedman.

Story centers on Bolger’s character, a young girl haunted by her father’s suicide who’s a student at an exclusive female boarding school. She pours her heart out in a diary, much of it focused on her beloved roommate — but their relationship changes drastically with the arrival of a mysterious new student, portrayed by Cole.
