FilmDistrict has provided us with the “official” synopsis and credits for Evil Dead, the Fede Alvarez-directed remake starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore. It will open in theaters April 13, 2013.

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

As for Sony’s other remake, Screen Gems shared the following plot crunch for Carrie, which was directed by Kimberly Peirce for release on March 15, 2013. Chloë Grace Moretz, Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Alex Russell, Gabriella Wilde, Ansel Elgort and Julianne Moore all star.

A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

I forgot Shiloh was going to be in Evil Dead. Woot woot!

Neither one of those synopses provides any insight whatsoever.

The Evil Dead remake won’t be able to live up to the ridiculously high standards. The 1981 original is a true classic, but I will give the remake a try, because like most Evil Dead fans, the remake has sparked some curiosity for me.

As far as Carrie goes, I don’t expect anything great. I dunno. The pics aren’t doing anything for me, and the synopsis sounds so uninteresting. I guess you have to be a fan of the original to have any real interest in this film. But Chole Grace Moretz is a fine choice for the lead role. She was hilarious in Kick-Ass, and Moretz provided an outstanding performance in Let Me In.

yeah this is pretty much non-news. But just thinking back, are there ANY horror stories left that they haven’t remade?

“In the much anticipated remake” Seriously? What about the much anticipated sequel to army of darkness!? Or the much anticipated anything else than a bloody remake.

  • Droolbear

I just want a remake of Stephen Kings “Pet Sematary”. The original was awful. No reason to remake Carrie for it was perfect.

    “The Evil Dead?” Again???

    “Carrie?” AGAIN?!?!?
