Matt Damon Fights For His Life In ‘Elysium’ With “The Chemrail”

Shrouded in mystery from the get-go, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp pulled together a remarkable cast – including Sharlto Copley, Jodie Foster, Matt Damon, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner, Alice Braga and Diego Luna – for the top secret sci-fi epic Elysium, which Sony launches into theaters March 1, 2013.

The first still shared put Damon on display with his alien-vaporizing firepower called the Chemrail, he explains the weapon to Empire: “Neill and the guys at Weta came up with some really gnarly weapons that don’t exist in our world,” he explained. “This one looks like some horrible weapon someone’s going to invent one day.

The movie’s title refers to a space station that, with Earth a ruined , poverty-stricken shell in the year 2154, transports the wealthy serenely in orbit. It represents possible salvation for Max’s irradiated footsoldier. “My character is dying,” says Damon. “He wants to get there because they have health care.

    The weapons were SICK in District 9 along with the whole film! I can’t wait to see how Neill’s sophomore film is, I can only hope that he’s gotten even BETTER from District 9!
