[BD Review] Evan Dickson Calls ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Dumb Fun!

Texas-Chainsaw-3D-Banner

Leatherface has returned to theaters, only now he’s in 3-D!

Evan Dickson survived the onslaught and had this to say about Lionsgate’s hotly anticipated Texas Chainsaw 3D:

If “dumb fun” can still be considered harmless – because sometimes it feels like we’re fighting for the very survival of cinema and all that – then that’s exactly how I’d peg Texas Chainsaw 3D. It’s not what most people would call a “good movie”, I’m not sure I can even call it that. But I do know that it engaged me, entertained me and made me laugh more than at least 60% of the horror movies I saw last year.

Hmmm, waiting on this one is sounding like a better idea the more I read.

This is the most favor some review I’ve read, I’m nervous.

    • Zombie-Killa

Same here Aaron. The consensus from other reviews I’ve read is Texas Chainsaw 3D is just your run-of-the-mill horror remake with cool 3D effects.

  • ThunderDragoon

Well, now I’ll walk into this with very low expectations. Sucks to read that the carnival scene isn’t what it looks like. Dumb and not like a TCM movie? *sigh* Hopefully I’ll at least like it.

  • Jhanse3 (Jhanse29)

Still have to see it tonight. I think it will still be good enough for me. I loved the last two TCM remake flicks. Also dissappointed to hear about the carnival scene. I envisioned a crazy ass Leatherface just swing that chainsaw around sawing up anyone in his way!

  • Samhain2010

It’s really bad guys. 3D is worthless as well.

  • tungbandit

i didn’t think it was terrible. it is what it is so be a good lil horror fan and go see it :)

    • Samhain2010

No it was terrible. And maybe we shouldn’t just go see a horror movie because it is a horror movie. Bad movies need to be treated badly and good movies need to be treated well. This movie is bad! The story, acting, camera work, 3D, and set pieces are all bad. They couldn’t even connect the story properly even though they made a huge deal about it being a straight sequel to the original. They freaking cut in scenes of Moseley and replaced Siedow in flash backs??!!! This is how they show respect to the original??? There was zero heart in this movie. The original was made for a fraction of the cost, yet the sets looked ten times better! Why the heck did they have the side story between Ryan and Nikki? It added nothing to the story! It could have actually added something to Heather’s transformation, but no, they couldn’t even get that right! This was the second worst movie in the series. That means it is worse than Leatherface:TCM3. That is hard to do. They even try to make the Sawyers sympathetic! This movie is straight up trash. It should have been released straight to video. It doesn’t deserve a theatrical release and has probably ended TCM on the big screen.

just in: there is gonna be another one. to each his/her own i guess. i didn’t think it was as bad as your making it sound, but that’s the benefit of being able to proclaim your own view. i liked the platinum dunes remake more than any of em so you can imagine the majority that i’m in lol

  • EvilHead1981

I don’t think it was as bad as most modern horror movies are. It DID suffer from an identity crisis. Part of it looked like it wanted to be “early 1990s”, especially with some musical choices(New Jack Swing rap song) and various details(the fact that they drive around in an old looking van, the girls sporting post-80s hair), but there are also things like cellphones, some modern music and the gravestone dating “2012″. I think it might’ve been a result of the initial idea of making it the early 90s, but some executive suit asshole saying, “Hold up, you can’t set it in the 90s. How will kids of the modern age connect to it? Toss in a few modern things, so stupid kids can relate, and then we’ll be fine!!!”.

  • Aaron Emery

It was realllly fuck stupid, but sorta entertaining. That’s all I can say. Atatched trailers: LAST EXORCISM PART 2 (NOT found footage!!!) and MAMA.

  • Autoflower

I loved it. It was better than the shitty remakes that came out. Leatherface is just like he was in 1974. I don’t know what people expect with movies today. Nothing will grasp what once was. You can’t catch lightning in a bottle twice. And one more thing, it’s not a damn remake, it’s a sequel.

  • ImPetrified

You guys didn’t really think this was gonna be a good movie, did you? The ’3D’ in the title should have been a dead giveaway. Plus it’s being released in January, the dumping ground for films the producers realized weren’t going to do well against better movies in the fall.

Also I love how BD uses the phrase “hotly anticipated” and gives this pile of crap a favorable review, all while plastering tons of advertisements for the movie all over the site. I realize it’s a rough economy guys, but try not to make it so damn obvious, lol.

  • Jhanse3 (Jhanse29)

I actually liked it. Sure it could have been a lot better and there were things id change but i found it to be entertaining. I thought the 3D was better then most 3D flicks.

  • Primeus

This was movie was absolutely terrible. I am not going to waste time detailing why. All I will say is the movie is so bad that they didn’t even know what decade they wanted it to take place in. Some parts of the movie feels 80s, some 90s, and some current day.

Oh and I love how they tried to cover up anything showing 1973 in the movie. If you pay attention the 1973 year is covered or hidden any place a date is shown. The graves have the year covered up by overgrown grass but you can see the month/day clearly.

Even in the police station when she is reading the paper you don’t see the year it’s blurred out.

Characters have no development and you don’t care about any of them…

Nerdy – semi unattractive white guy
Dumb white girl with big tits that is a slut from the moment she comes on scene.
Stereo typical hip-hop music black guy
    Dumb sheriff with no backbone

I mean seriously? It’s 2013 and this is the best they film industry can do?
