Here’s Your First Look At Ti West’s Top Secret ‘The Sacrament’!!

The-Sacrament

Bloody Disgusting is excited to share the first ever look at The Sacrament, the latest genre offering from horror fav Ti West (The Innkeepers, V/H/S, The House of the Devil, The Roost)

The first still takes us to the Savannah, Georgia set where star AJ Bowen (The Signal, You’re Next) is on the run from something terrible. It’s a bit reminiscent of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Joe Swanberg, Kentucker Audley, Amy Seimetz and Gene Jones also star.

The Sacrament was written by West and is produced and presented by Hostel and Cabin Fever‘s Eli Roth, alongside Jacob Jaffke, Peter Phok and Worldview’s Christopher Woodrow and Molly Conners. West and Eric Newman are executive producing with Worldview’s Maria Cestone, Sarah Johnson Redlich, Hoyt David Morgan and IM Global’s Stuart Ford.

You know, I like West’s work (emphasis on the word “like”), but someone really needs to give that dude some pointers on pacing. His movies seem to be more of an exercise in patience than being wholly entertaining, and while he has some good ideas, they often fall flat to his monotone style of storytelling. It’s okay if your movie is a slow burn, but as long as it’s not a drawn out crawl.

Ty has been a good director so far (haven’t seen the roost) but I do want to see him step up his game. House of the devil was amazing and innkeepers was really good. His segment in VHS was well done but had really no impact at all unfortunately.

But if he’s working with AJ again I’m all in.

I think this guy has serious potential to be great. However I do agree his films are too slow. Other than THOTD, I’ve been underwhelmed by his stuff…and I really disliked The Inkeepers. Characters were uninteresting, and the scares were few and far between. His segment in VHS, while my least favorite, was still effective, and I was very creeped out by it. I hope this is the project that makes me a fan again, as I really think he has the potential to be great.

I actually met the crew for this film at the Savannah Film Festival. Even got to talk to the DP, a great down to earth guy. But maaaan! they wouldn’t tell me ANYTHING about this movie! Not even what type of horror movie it was. And all they want to show is one pic, lol. The suspense is killing me!

Reminiscent of TCM? I don’t remember the helicopter scene. I’ve only seen House of the Devil, which I thought was great.

FYI – his production company is named Slow Burn, which is indicative of his style and pace of his movies – slow progression to the big climax.
