I know, I’ve already hooked you. A horror dating sim? I don’t even know what that is, but my wallet’s out and ready for me to throw all my non-existent money at it.
Benjamin Rivers is the indie developer behind the deeply unsettling indie horror hit Home, which is on its way to Mac and Mobile sometime later this year. Speaking with Joystiq, Rivers said he’d like to make a new horror title with dating-sim elements. It started off as a joke he made on Twitter, and now it looks like this bizarre game may actually happen. More after the jump.
“I made a joke on Twitter like a month ago,” Rivers said, “where I was like ‘Hey guys, if I did a horror game with a dating-sim element, would people play it?’ and people were like ‘Yeah!’ Playing things like Mass Effect while finishing this game, playing Persona, that element of a really relationship-based game where you chase stuff like that, that’s kind of my new jam.”
“It’s not a grinding game or anything like that, but I want to take a lot of what you do in those relationship games like Persona and offload some of that to people,” Rivers continued, “I want to basically take a game that makes you feel as cool as you do in Persona, as far as relationships, as connected.”
I don’t know about you, but this sounds like a strange and wonderful idea, and possibly the beginning of a new subgenre.
