The new Evil Dead hits theaters this Friday, April 5th, but you already know my thoughts on it. If you’re a horror fan, it’s something you don’t want to miss. It hits a few bumps in the beginning – but once it gets going the film just flies along and it’s a gory, glorious blast (my review here)! To that end, I recently sat down with writer/director Fede Alvarez and his star Jane Levy to talk about the rigors of a shoot soaked in practical effects. We also touch upon the potential plans for the upcoming sequel.

In the film, “In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends who become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead. An archaeologist’s tape recording reveals that the ancient text was discovered among the Khandarian ruins of a Sumerian civilization. Playing the taped incantations, the youths unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.” Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, and Jessica Lucas also star.

Head inside to check it out!

I am SO looking forward to this movie!! And the fact that a sequel is in the pipe makes it all the more better lol.

Evan so that’s what you look like! nice to put a face to the legend/the man!! :)

great interview! i can’t wait for this and Evan i give you full credit for being one of the first people (that i can recall) who was 100% sure that we readers at BD would be into this movie! so major props!

oh and i love Jane Levy. she’s fucking awesome! :)

    • djblack1313

also, i am really looking forward to the sequel to this just because it’s going to be 100% new story-wise. that’s pretty exciting!

        There’s 2 special things about it…

        1. It’s the first time in god knows how long we get a new Evil Dead story…

        2. It’s the first time in the whole franchise it’s a proper sequel. ED2 was not a sequel at all, it was a remake as we know and AOD was not a real sequel to ED2 either given the way it started was in complete contrast to how ED2 finished.

        • djblack1313

          weresmurf, exactly! i agree 100%!

          Sigh, not “this” again.
Evil Dead 2 IS a sequel to the original.
Every should know by now the reason why they reshot the beginning due to “rights to footage” issues. The sequel part kicks in at the point the original film ended. And yes, for the sake of AOD they did change it around a bit (blame it on a wizard).
Just because there are similarities between Evil Dead 1 and 2 doesn’t mean that the 2nd is a remake.
You may as well say that Friday the 13th parts 2,3,4 are “remakes” also because they share similarities in people going to the camp and being killed by someone with a machete!

EVIL DEAD 2 – SEQUEL. NOT REMAKE.

          • djblack1313

there’s are huge differences between your F13 and ED2 examples. you know that.

          • brianxwilliam

yea. you can’t compare ED2 to the F13 sequels. Anyone can see that F13 parts 2, 3 and 4 are SEQUELS. However when starting ED2 you DO NOT get that feeling that much.

I’m way excited for this but the sequel just bumped me a bit. I can’t f*cking wait until the sequel get’s promoted and that’s probably a couple years away. I don’t get excited for sequel’s when I haven’t even seen the first film yet so, this is a first for me.

  • eagleye25

Hell-to-the-ye-ahhhh. Good news to me. Jane Levy, so beautiful.

  • USUCK

I’m curious to know if the original ending to Evil Dead had a cliffhanger for a sequel? Does anyone know if a script leaked. Curious to see what changed from paper to screen.

  • Zombie-Killa

Call me a weirdo, but Jane Levy is more attractive in the trailers with the nasty zombie make-up! Still an attractive woman regardless, but I’ll take Evil Dead Mia over redhead Jane any day! lol. Ugh, only two more days! Three at the latest, because I might go on Saturday.

Oh, and I’ve seen Evan before, because I remember the interview he did with Michelle Rodriguez for Resident Evil Retribution. lol.
