[R.I.P.] Richard Brooker (1954 – 2013)

Some sad news today as Richard Brooker, the very first Jason to ever wear a Hockey Mask, has passed away at the age of 58. Having portrayed Mr. Voorhees in Steve Miner’s Friday The 13th: Part 3, Brooker went onto another acting role in 1983’s Deathstalker before moving on to a career as a horse trainer.

As a child, Brooker was definitely in my nightmares. That shot of him as Jason, looking through the window and smiling at our heroine in the canoe in the middle of the lake… for whatever reason it was one of the more indelibly frightening moments of my childhood.

Head inside to watch the scene, and to pay tribute to him outside of the mask as well.

best Jason ever….Ted White from F13 part 4. but this is sad news. 58 really is too young to be dying. Booker was a very good Jason. the best Jason IMO are Ted White, followed by a tie between Booker and Derek Mears.

You forgot about Kane Hodder djblack1313. I think he was the best! R.I.P. Richard!

Joe all zombie Jasons are god awful, IMO. lol. even the faux-Jason in part 5 is better than Hodder’s walking so slow yet able to catch up with the fastest gold medal winning victims. part 5 was also the last F13 movie (not including the reboot) which had any good kills or any atmosphere. 🙂

Bummer! I was gonna get his autograph at Fatality Fest this summer and finish off my slasher collection. :o(

    Thanks for the scares, man!

I used to set my alarm and wake up in the middle of the night to watch the Friday the 13th movies on cable. 1-3 were out back then. Man, I loved the 3D. Great kills in part 3. Nice work on the skull crushing. RIP.

That window scene creeped me out as a kid as well. Probably the most memorable few seconds of the entire series for me, still to this day…

For some bizzare reason that I still can’t fathom, my Step-mother took my brother and I to see Part III in the theater in the summer of ’82. I was 11. That was my first experience with horror, and been hooked ever since.
