In two weeks, Friday the 13th fans will finally get their first official new live-action story set in the iconic franchise with Crystal Lake on Peacock. Throughout the ’80s, the franchise earned a staggering eight installments, so it’s hard to believe it’s really been 17 years since we’ve gotten a new Jason Voorhees outing, though we’re happy to see that the drought is officially breaking. Making the new series so exciting is that it also serves as a prequel to the original 1980 movie, so while we would have been happy to have gotten any new outing involving Jason Voorhees on a warpath, the new series instead focuses on Pamela Voorhees and the years leading up to the events of the debut installment.
Attendees at next weekend’s New York Comic Con are in for a unique treat, as they can step inside an all-new activation on the show floor honoring Crystal Lake. Peacock describes the experience, “Fans will be transported back to the 1970s at the seemingly idyllic Camp Crystal Lake — but will they survive their camp counsellor orientation? The free interactive experience for all New York Comic Con attendees will deliver in-world thrills, Camp Crystal Lake photo moments and branded giveaways.”

A prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise, Crystal Lake follows single mother Pam Voorhees who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?
Crystal Lake stars Linda Cardellini, William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom.
Even though we’ve gotten looks at the new series through teasers, we still have a feeling it will be an experience that no one could have anticipated. We’re more than happy to settle for literally any new story set in the Friday the 13th franchise, and we can also hope that this is merely the beginning of a full-blown revival of the proper franchise.
Crystal Lake premieres on Peacock on October 15.
