‘Batman Arkham Origins’ Announced, Excitement Rioting Ensues

Arkham

Yes you heard it right, it looks as if our pal Bruce Wayne will be going the Lara Croft route. Batman Arkham Origins will take Batman back to the early days of his career. The game takes place years before the events of Arkham Asylum and before crime has overcome Gotham. You will play as an unrefined Batman, and meet a lot of classic characters in the story of an up and coming Batman. Also announced is Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. It allows you to continue the Origins campaign on Nintendo and Sony’s handheld systems. Blackgate will be a 2.5D “companion game” to Origins. Origins will be releasing October 25th of this year on the PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and WiiU. Head past the break if you’d like to gander at some pack shots.

Really hope there aren’t so many Riddler question marks all over the game like in Arkham City, it got tedious and took away from the main story. Arkham City had more neon green than Batman Forever and Batman & Robin put together.

I would hope that because it’s so early in his story he wouldn’t have known the riddler yet. But that could also be his introduction to the riddler.

I really loved the first. The second was a step in the right direction but unrealized. I beat the game and discovered everything in short time. I just hope this prequel isn’t like some other prequel games (GOW Ascension) that do nothing but exploit the material for money. Batman has endured and deserves better. ANd while the premise sounds interesting, it also sounds as if the developers have lost their way. While the comic story has progressed, a successful (finally) game series must resort to origin stories to stay above water. Sad.

Gotta agree with you. Arkham city was superb but it was severely lacking. They got the mechanics and the city down, but the story left a bit to be desired. Still needs to be bigger and a more in-depth story. Otherwise it’ll just waste everyone’s time.

This is great news. I loved Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.

I thought they were going to make Arkham World?

I guess they chose to do a Batman: Year One type of videogame which is fine by me too. :)

Funny how the article doesn’t notify the readers that this game is NOT BEING MADE BY ROCKSTEADY (the ones who made Arkham Asylum and the Sequel Arkham City). Also, Paul Dini is not writing it.

So…I am extremely worried that there are hot shots behind this game who really do not know what they are doing…and that this will become buggy as fuck.

Arkham city was by far the best game I’ve played in years. Being a massive fan of Batman they combined the Nolan’s grittiness and Burton’s gothic visuals and delivered big time! I felt I was Batman. Mind blowing in my opinion. However, I am not interested in prequels. I want to see how the story progresses now that certain characters are not among us – do not want to spoil this. Also, Paul Dini is not writing up so it feels like a cheal cash-in- they announced out of the blue and there is no hype. At least give us a trailer, some voice casting, something!

Everything doomas said. I can’t help but be disappointed that we’re going back to the roots instead of pushing forward after an epic reveal at the end of ‘City’.

My thoughts exactly! It is such a modern trend to do something awesome and then after a bigger sequel to go back to the original story. It always fails unless I do not recall correctly, so why bother?
