FilmDistrict To Get ‘The Last Word’

There’s not a lot of info yet on The Last Word but I figure it’s something to keep an eye on. Writer Ben Ketai (“30 Days Of Night” Series) scripted the story that caught the eye of A7SLE Films principals Eric Gores, Twilight actor Peter Facinelli and Rob DeFranco of A7SLE Films. After that producer Frank Mancuso Jr.(Friday The 13th 1-4) of Boss Media came onboard.

Now A7SLE has partnered with FilmDistrict, who will co-finance and co-produce. It all sounds very dry now, but I’m looking forward to seeing who they attach to star and direct because the premise is sort of intriguing.

The film “will focus on the strange and tragic aftermath endured by the participants in the trial of a young man in Texas who was wrongly convicted and executed for the rape and murder of a nun.

Apparently, they really mean “based on a true story” this time. FilmDistrict is planning on a 2014 release.

FilmDistrict almost always pleases me with their choice of films. ‘Drive’ was definitely not the mainstream flick everyone thought it was going to be. ‘The Rum Diary’ I didn’t care for but it was still a daring choice. ‘Safety not Guaranteed’ was pretty good and ‘Looper’ was one of the best sci-fi films in years. I also really enjoyed ‘Lockout’ and ‘Don’t be Afraid of the Dark’. Just this past week they won the box office with ‘Evil Dead’ which is far more brutal than most studios would produce.
