‘Eternal Darkness’ Team Working On Spiritual Successor, ‘Shadow Of The Eternals’

Woah. It took a while, but it looks like our pleas may have been answered. IGN has unveiled a trailer — you can watch it after the break — for a new game called Shadow of the Eternals, a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness made by the team that created it. This is amazing news for fans of Sanity’s Requiem, many of whom have been clamoring for a true sequel for some time. This is the next best thing, and judging by the quality of the game’s teaser, it looks fantastic.

In related news, Precursor Games will be launching a Kickstarter campaign for Shadow of the Eternals in just shy of three days, so you can show your excitement by lending your support. Now I’m going to shut up so you can really immerse yourself in this new teaser…

    Ha, I was just getting ready to see if you had posted on this Adam. Way to be on top of it!

      haha, cookie for me!

    Honestly I don’t think it’s a spiritual successor of Eternal Darkness. That’s one of my favorite games of all time. Doesn’t the girl at 0:52-0:53 look a lot like Alex from Eternal Darkness? I’m starting to think that this is an actual sequel. Just a thought. Either way I’m backing this game.

      I think it’s a “spiritual relation” in the same sense Xenosaga is to Xenogears. Same core ideas, some characters look the same, same themes, just different BECAUSE they CAN’T literally connect them together because all the legal stuff. Richard Garriot look like he’s doing that with his new game, Shroud of the Avatar, which looks to be a spiritual successor to the Ultima series(which EA owns).

      He means spiritual successor in the way that Perfect Dark is the spiritual successor to GoldenEye. Same type of game by the same studio but different setting/story/characters.

      Definitely looking forward to this, I hope this has the same spooky feeling as Eternal Darkness.

    Well it’s about time. I’m guaranteed to get this.

    God, I wish someone would start a Kickstarter for The Legend of Dragoon 2. I know it’s not a horror game, but it’s my favorite game of all time. Sorry for getting off topic. Onto the article… I still have yet to play Eternal Darkness, but I did watch a friend play it when it first came out. It was really trippy. Just another game on my list that I need to buy! I’m very happy for the fans of this game, though, because they’ve wanted a sequel for so long. I’m so happy Kickstarter exists. It’s actually making fans’ dreams a reality.

      This I agree with. There are a few projects I kickstarted, and I’m glad I did it!

  • REmake

    I seriously hope this is a WiiU exclusive. Keep it in Nintendo.

  • DarkestKnight

    REmake are you serious? Nintendo already destroyed the fatal frame franchise and they are looking to destroy the eternal darkness franchise as well given that they extended the trademark on the name. that’s why this has a different name and it should be kept as far from nintendo as possible.

    @REmake @DarkestKnight

    The game is on the Wii-u AND PC! The crowdfunding for the game started yesterday. There will be 12 episodic chapters that will be at least 2-4 hours each. The crowdfunding implies that this is only the first season. I backed the game for $25 dollars which gets me into their exclusive forums which allows backers to suggest sanity effects and a lot more. You also get the first 6 episodes.

    They’re asking for 1.5 million and after 1 day, they’re at $97,000.
