Universal Releases Statement About Delayed ‘Jurassic Park’

On the heels of last night’s leaked Intel, Universal Pictures has officially decided to take Jurassic Park 4 off its June 13, 2014 release date. Alas, the gates have closed once again. Sigh.

Variety shares the following a statement from the studio: “Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise. We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise’s storied history.

CAs of this writing olin Trevorrow is still helming the pic and is currently rewriting the script with his writing partner Derrick Connelly who he worked with on his Sundance hit Safety Not Guaranteed.

Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver penned the original script but no plot details have been revealed.

Frank Marshall is producing with Spielberg exec producing.

  • I’d rather them take their time with it than rush something. Doesn’t sound nearly as grim as people around the web are making it sound. It sounds very much so like it’s still going to happen, just not June of next year. I’m interested to see where Colin is going with it, and I like the bit about them being “very excited for Trevorrow’s vision.”

  • Kroork

I 100% agree. This franchise is so important to me that I would rather them take time and make it right. As long as I know it’s happening I am ok.

  • WalkWithMeInDarkness

Yes, don’t rush this. I agree with Kroork, take the time to make it right. Especially if that rumor about dinosaurs carrying weapons was true. It sounds too dumb to be true, but it could very well be and if it is, I say rewrite the shit out of that script.

It seems as though a lot of films are being delayed anymore. The Carrie remake, Kick-Ass 2, and now Jurassic Park 4 have all been delayed. However, I would much rather see a great Jurassic Park in a distant future rather than see a terrible Jurassic Park in the near future.

  • ThunderDragoon

Oh good, so it’s not cancelled, they’re just giving it extra time. Cool, I’m fine with that. I’d always rather wait for something really good than get something right away and have it suck.

  • weresmurf

Well, I loved the first but didn’t care for 2 and 3, so the franchise isn’t ‘important to me’, so I don’t ‘care’ if 4 comes out or not. But if they’re going to release 4 it’s better that they take their time than rush it. So good choice I guess.

I read an article the other night on different site discussing why the ‘Star Wars’ franchise is overrated and features more bad movies than good. I think the same applies to this franchise; the first was an absolute masterpiece with FX that have still not been topped, the second was an absolute mess and is hardly worth watching again, the third I’ll admit was very enjoyable but still not a good movie in the least. The JP entries are a surefire box office smash but they are poorly planned and sub-par. I think every extra month or year put into this is for the best for all of us fans of Spielberg’s masterpiece and Crichton’s novel.

  • Zombie-Killa

Good. I’d rather they take the time to get it right, and produce a film, because they could (and this is how I feel about JP 3) just rush everything for the sake of a big payday at the box office by banking off of the JP name, and we’ll see another shitty movie in the series.

I was really hoping this would happen. Seemed that a summer 2014 release was way too soon for a movie this big that had just announced a director in fall of 2012.

  • Jasonicus

I always thought that date was rather quick with all of the effects work that needed done. Probably for the best.
