Will Screen Gems Move ‘Resident Evil’ To 2015?

The fifth Resident Evil, Screen Gems’ 2012 Resident Evil: Retribution, opened the door for a sixth film.

Officially announced already with Paul W.S. Anderson returning to direct, and Milla Jovovich once again attached to star as Alice, the studio slated it for release on September 12, 2014.

Even though a studio can pump out a feature in less than six months, that date is looking less and less likely. Even Jovovich seems to think we won’t be seeing Resident Evil 6 until 2015.

@REuniceJovovich 2015 i would imagine,” Jovovich answered a fan via Twitter.

Either way, there’s a plethora of “White House” attack movies hitting theaters. By 2015, the conceit that the infected have taken over the President’s home may be trite…

Thoughts?

They still have a year and a half right?
I guess it’s hard to get everything scheduled with Pompeii and Expendables 3 happening soon.

Honestly, I think the later release date will help the new Resident Evil film. With each film constantly panned by the critics and people, who pay to watch them, I think the break between each release allows most people to forget about how awful the previous film was. Just a wild theory of mine. lol.

And funny thing. I hated Retribution at first, but after watching it a few times after the theaters, it’s actually starting to grown one me! Weird. lol.

Zombie-Killa, i hear ya. i’ve loved RE’s 1-4 (yes, that includes AFTERLIFE! lol) but RETRIBUTION so much. i never thought the day would come where i actually didn’t like, let alone HATE, a RE movie. i’ve tried re-watching the movie a couple of times on DVD and other than the Executioners/Ada/Alice attack (which was a lazy, unnecessary redo of the far superior Executioner attack on Claire/Alice in AFTERLIFE) i find it unwatchable. the movie actually turned me off to the RE movies (at least for a while. again, i hate saying that).

that being said, i have some (not much) hope that the last movie will kick ass and make up for RETRIBUTION. they MUST bring back Ali’s Claire and Wentworth’s Chris (but recent articles/interviews with Went seem to indicate that he’s more into writing now. his STOKER was awesome!).

but this 2015 news was expected since Anderson is doing (IMO a movie NO ONE asked for) POMPEII.

tbh, i wish Anderson was NOT directing this last installment (they should bring back EXTINCTION’s Russell Mulcahy. at least Russell gave us the most gory/bloody (and most fucking awesome) sequence in any of the RE movies…the Vegas Eiffel Tower “super-zombies” attack sequence is #1!!

let Anderson “write” RE6 (and i use the term “write” and Anderson in the same sentence very loosely! LOL) and let another director direct it.

  • Zombie-Killa

I agree about Russell Mulcahy! He’s the reason why Extinction is my favorite film in the series. It’s been time for Anderson to step aside for a while now.

And good point about Executioners/Ada/Alice attack in Retribution! The one in Afterlife was much better, IMO.

      Zombie-Killa, right?! :)

and i honestly am curious…was ANYONE really demanding a POMPEII love story/action flick?

the last one just wasn’t good. some of the stuff they took from other films like dead snow. dawn of the dead remake. also what was with all the clones again. what was with the aqua zombies. leon in this as disappointing. what happen to claire and chris where did they disappear to at the beginning. wesker asking for help wth was that about. the giant licker was just stupid. they ran out of ideas in the last one. i just hope this is the last one
