Jamie Foxx “Aggressively” Wants To Play ‘Spawn’

Todd McFarlane’s most iconically dark hero Spawn came to the big screen in 1995 with a brutal adaptation. In a recent interview with Foxx expressed his desire to do a Mike Tyson biopic as well as a Spawn reboot.

From the article: “As versatile as Foxx seems to be these days, there are still projects he’s trying to make happen, including an adaptation of the comic character Spawn, as well as a biopic about Mike Tyson. “Spawn is one, yeah. And Mike Tyson. Those are two roles I would just love to do. I’m aggressively pursuing them,””

I say we wait to see how Foxx holds it down as Electro in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2. What do you think of Foxx taking on Spawn?

  • MartyrX

No, no, no, no, no! the ONLY person who should play Spawn is Michael Jai White!!

  • weresmurf

He’s a great actor so I’m perfectly fine with him playing Al Simmons, seeing as 90% of the time he won’t even be seen, it’ll be a head to toe costume.

Oh and he’ll do a SHIT JOB playing Shocker in Spiderman 2. I know this 110% for sure…

    Because he’s playing Electro 😛

    • Lonmonster

      Aaaand that’s embarrassing. Fixed!

      • weresmurf

        Hahahaha! Good job 😀

    • Spike0037

really you know this as a fact. were did you get this information. I would love to now can they give you the winning lottery numbers.

      • weresmurf

Are you touched in the head?

The article originally said he was playing SHOCKER. Hence why I said ‘He’ll do a shit job playing SHOCKER’. Jamie Foxx signed on to play ELECTRO. If he’s playing ELECTRO he’s not going to do a good job playing SHOCKER now is he?

It’s kind of like if you signed on to play THE PENGUIN in BATMAN, you’re going to give a pretty crap MR FREEZE performance aren’t you? But you’ll give an outstanding PENGUIN performance…

I love the original spawn film, awesome effects, kick arse soundtrack, if they pull of a good story then it will be cool

  • ThunderDragoon

Sounds great to me. Whatever gets this movie off the ground, I’m happy!

  • Sirengx

Michael Jai White is the only one I can see playing him. He’s still relevant and can still fight. Why change things?

This is going to turn out like another Crow :/

  • DarrelDreadful

Idris Elba if not Michael Jai White. Jamie wouldnt have a hard time getting the role though, so I guess we’ll see.

I actually like the idea of Foxx as Spawn

    • Spike0037

I to want to see him play the role. But most people have not seen him in (ALI, ANY GIVEN SUNDAY,BAIT and People forget COLLATERAL.) I know people think of DJANGO and RAY.

    • grossgreg

Me too, and I’m a huge Spawn fan.

  • Spike0037

I LOVE HOW PEOPLE GO HE CAN’T PLAY THAT CHARACTER WHEN IT COMES TO ACTORS. It is You guys have to see the movie first befor you trash it you sound like asshats.

  • devilmaycry26

i like jamie foxx dude is a talented actor and has came a long way in is career. but i feel michael jai white should be should cast as spawn again in this reboot. he knows martial arts. built. got the voice for the character. its just common sense to pick him again. hell if they did a green lantern film with Jon Stewart . he would be a great choice as well. he can pull off the military look . he was in universal soldier 1 in the beginning scene as the soldier that told van damn lets get f outta here and he was in the 2nd one as well. so hes the perfect choice. if they do pick jamie foxx i hope he does it well n hope he can pull off the character but michael jai white is the better choice

    • Spike0037

yes michael jai white my have the martial arts traning but what does that matter. They also try other actors for movie who have know fight skills. Look at the actors from The Matrix. And who cares about the build actors change the build all the time. Look at Cristin Bale he went from The Machinist to Batman. Will Smith but on 40 pounds of muscle for Ali. And when it comes to the voice the actors they should be able to chang the pitch of there voice

      • weresmurf

Plus it’ll likely be a stuntman in the costume anyhow. Just sayin’.

  • zog71

I think Foxx would do a good job, but my thing is that I actually believe this is a film that needs to be redone or rebooted, however you want to say it. Jai White was good as Spawn, but the story and movie as a whole were just sooo bad. Think it needs to be done by someone who really knows the Spawn universe and can make a very good dark and ultraviolent movie.

  • Evan3

I’m fine with a reboot, but frankly, I thoroughly enjoyed the first Spawn film and think it holds up pretty well. John Leguizamo was a great Vindicator.

  • CTHL

As much as I like Michael Jai White, he wasn’t a very good Al Simmons. I actually enjoyed the movie (it’s bad, make no mistake), but he is too much of a … nice guy… for the part. Him playing angry always seems comically forced (which only worked for Black Dynamite).

But I could say just about the same with Jamie Foxx :-/ Love Django, but not for his part. Wouldn’t be my first choice for Spawn by any means.

Regardless, if they happen to stick to the Sam & Twitch-focused horror-centric reboot that they’ve been speaking of for years, Spawn is supposed to be something of a background character that’s rarely seen so it probably wouldn’t be a huge part anyways. In which case, either actor would be more than adequate I guess.

In the end… I just wish they continued the animated series :x. It was perfect.
