‘Child’s Play’ Creator Says ‘Freddy vs. Chucky’ Would Play Like ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’
Here’s a super fun piece of non-news that will have your horror-filled-brain daydreaming “high concept slasher” for the rest of the day.
Last night the FrightFest UK film festival played host to an early screening of Curse of Chucky, the sixth film in the Child’s Play saga. Don Mancini, franchise creator and Curse director, was on hand to for a special Q+A where he talked about iconic slasher team-ups. After joking off the idea of the “obvious” Leprechaun vs Chucky, Mancini pitched audiences his idea for Freddy vs. Chucky, which is says would make a lot more sense than Freddy vs. Jason (he’s got a point).
“It all just seems too obvious to me,” Bleeding Cool reports Mancini said in regard to Leprechaun vs Chucky. “I mean Freddy vs. Jason, I thought that was a fun movie… But for me the problem with that team up is that Jason doesn’t really have any personality and doesn’t talk. If Freddy and Chucky got together that would be a really funny double act. If you did a Child’s Play on Elm Street and did it like a horror movie version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
He continues, “So Chucky and Freddy meet and Freddy says, ‘Chucky I’m a big fan of your work.’ Chucky says, ‘Freddy I admire your technique.’ And they decide that Elm Street is too small for the two of them so they have to have a contest to see who can kill the most teenagers before sunrise.“
Curse of Chucky (read our review) arrives on VOD September 24 with an October 8, 2013 DVD and Blu-ray release via Universal Home Entertainment.
