BREAKING: Jason Voorhees Will Return On ‘Friday the 13th’!

Breaking news Tuesday evening as sources tell Bloody Disgusting that Paramount Pictures’ new Friday the 13th is taking the first Friday the 13th spot of 2015, opening in theaters March 13, 2015.

No word yet on writers, if Derek Mears will return as Jason Voorhees, or what version of the sequel they will use. There are rumors of a potential found footage angle that Paramount might be pursuing.

While there are no official confirmations regarding exactly what form the sequel will come in, Platinum Dunes is rumored to be returning to produce. We hope to have confirmation on that soon. The 2009 Friday the 13th remake, directed by Marcus Nispel, made $90M worldwide. In it, “A group of young adults discover a boarded up Camp Crystal Lake, where they soon encounter Jason Voorhees and his deadly intentions.

Awesome news! Sucks that we have to wait until 2015, but I’m not complaining because we finally have a date.

  • dommyinla

i understand the desire to do something different… while i enjoyed parts of the reboot very much… most of it was the same old thing just looked better with more style… not sure of ff is the way…

Like 2015 didn’t already have a metric crap ton of awesomeness in theaters…YES!!!

  • WalkWithMeInDarkness

It’s about damn time. The source said something about it not being a sequel to the 2009 film, but another reboot. Not sure if that’s true, but as long as it’s better than the last one and not found footage, I’ll be happy. Jason doesn’t need found footage.

AWESOME! Can not wait, 2015 is going to be such an exciting year for movies. I really really hope Derek comes back as Jason, he was just such a great fit and gave Jason a much needed spark. As far as the plot goes, am I the only one who wants Camp Crystal Lake to be open again? Lol I didn’t care much for the tunnel or the house on the lake. I know its something you don’t see really in mainstream horror anymore, but I would love to see Jason terrorizing campers on the big screen. Idk how to feel about the found footage angle because all I can think about is Halloween: Resurrection *shudders*

I’m a fan of found footage films but I agree that this movie won’t benefit with that approach. They need to go old school and give us a simple sequel about {likable and relatable} camp councelors getting fucked-up by Jason. Something with a fun and gruesome tone along the lines of the first ‘Wrong Turn’ film; don’t try to reinvent the franchise, don’t try too hard to reach todays generation by featuring the newest technology, and for gods sake don’t let Damian Shannon and Mark Swift write the script.

…It would be awesome if they actually made a direct sequel to the original series and set-it in the 80’s as a “long lost sequel”. Ah, wishful thinking

Please NO found footage!!! We have enough of that shit with those terrible Paranormal Activity movies. Found footage and Friday the 13th do not mix! Just make a straight sequel with Camp Crystal Lake trying to re-open kind of like in Jason Lives when they tried to re-open it as Camp Forest Green. Also, bring back Derek Mears!! He was incredible as Jason. Way better than that overrated, slow moving, robotic Kane Hodder.

i probably wont be excited for this until i see a trailer. the reboot was an alright film, but i think its greatly over rated. i really wanna see somthing new for the F13 franchise. it dosent have to stray far from the point, but cmon, a group of kids partying in a house and start to die one by one. for fucks sake id rather see jason in space again. ( not really, but you get my point. )

Friday 13th remake sucked badly for me. It was awful. The kills were terrible, the characters so one dimensional and the whole Jason running and moving more silently like a ninja..I just didn’t dig it. Having said that, I have to admit, Jason was the most boring of the other horror icons. He is too invisible and lacks personality.

  • divisionbell

Yes to Derek Mears and NO to found footage!! Hope they bring the series back to camp.

    • divisionbell

And by camp I mean summer camp

  • FreddyKrueger13

I’ve always wanted to see Danielle Harris in one of these, I doubt it would happen but it would still be awesome.

  • Voorhees83

I agree with everyone else. Please no found footage movie! It’s not The Blair Witch Project or Paranormal Activity, it’s F-13th damnit! I’d be happy with an original series sequel. Maybe the return of Corey Feldman as Tommy Jarvis or maybe even a prequel when Jason was a boy at the camp. Also, let’s not forget about the score and “the main theme” that was missing from the remake this time. Chi chi chi ha ha ha.

I guess I don’t have the same reverence for the franchise as some horror fans. I actually liked the remake. To me it made Jason fresh again in some ways. However, I didn’t find it great. Honestly, that’s how I feel across the board with even the best F13 films. The characters were never more than one dimensional after the original. There was that silly 80s music, Jason always telegraphed the hell out of his kills. But that was the beauty of Jason, it was goofy and bloody at the same time. *shrug* I just think ppl judge the remake too harshly given the source material. My point is… Yay, more dead ppl. NO FRIGGIN FOUND FOOTAGE THOUGH!

I’ll mark my calendar! First I need to buy a 2015 calendar…then I’ll mark it!

  • djblack1313

good news! i really enjoyed the reboot. it wasn’t perfect but Derek’s awesome portrayal of a LIVING/non-zombie (please keep him that way! lol) Jason was the best since Ted White’s part 4 Jason.

and i agree w/ everyone….NO FOUND FOOTAGE!!! please dear god don’t do this.

  • Mucey

This will be the 13th Friday the 13th movie (if you count Freddy vs. Jason), so here’s hoping it will be AWESOME!
