Apparently, there have been some rumors circulating about the Internet that the teen slasher game Until Dawn had been cancelled. They may have stemmed from an email Amazon sent out to those who had pre-ordered the game, which detailed the alleged cancellation — this may have started here.
Having just confirmed the contrary back in October, I was worried something had happened. The games industry is often unpredictable; it’s certainly not unheard of for a game to suddenly get canned, especially if it’s been silent for some time. In hopes of figuring out what’s going on, I emailed Pete Samuels, managing director at developer Supermassive Games, to find out if there was any truth to it.
According to Samuels, Until Dawn is “most definitely not cancelled and we are still developing it,” and “we’re really excited about what we’re creating and can’t wait to tell more and show more sometime soon.” All good news. It sounds as if they’re fully aware of how silent the game has been lately. His email left me wondering if there isn’t an announcement coming up after the new year.
“It’s clearly not planned to be a 2013 release any longer and I’m hoping and expecting to be able to say more in the new year.” Don’t fret, folks. It’s all good — we just have to be patient.
