Supermassive Games has announced that they will be undergoing a “redundancy consultation process”, which will involve the Directive 8020 developer laying off up to 75 employees. This comes after the company’s former CEO Robert Henrysson stepped down back in June.
On X, the developer released the following statement: “We have made the difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process, which we anticipate will result in the loss of up to 75 of our colleagues. This is a necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company.”
The statement continues, “We know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone, and our priority throughout the process will be to provide support to all those impacted.”
This is the second time in two years that Supermassive has had to undergo restructuring. In February 2024, the developer announced that it was “entering into a period of consultation,” where the developer laid off roughly 90 of its 300 staff, equating to about 30 percent of its work force.
Directive 8020, which was released back in May (read Aaron’s review), experienced mixed reviews upon release, as did Supermassive’s take on the Little Nightmares series in Little Nightmares III, which was released in October of last year.
Directive 8020 is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Steam. Little Nightmares III, which just had its first DLC released this June, is available for PC via Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
