As a fan of all things The Exorcist I was surprised I hadn’t seen this before. Back in 1984, just after the 1o year anniversary of the film’s release, “Good Morning America” held a reunion with the members of film’s cast including Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Max Von Sydow along with Jason Miller and original author/screenwriter William Peter Blatty.
What’s interesting about the footage to me is that it demonstrates how quickly something can go from being considered taboo in our society to being considered “safe” enough to appear on “Good Morning America,” the bastion of inoffensive AM chatter for the masses. Of course, this turnaround happens much more quickly now than it did in the 70’s/80’s – but it’s sort of comforting to know that the rites of integration when it comes to cultural assimilation have never been new.
Also interesting? How much younger Max Von Sydow looks than his character, even though it’s a decade later.
